Cashless society

Worst thing that happened was contact payments in pubs.

When I used to hand over a £20 note, I knew the value of that.......now all this tap tap tap malarkey, it's too easy to spend money
Also, in a pub, when they say "5.60" or whatever, how many of us actually check the amount on the card thing??

Oh yeah - and with ATM's disappearing from the high street, what also gets on my tits are these cash machines in corner shops etc that charge me £2.75 (or whatever) to draw some money out

I have been cashless for years now save for the local baguette shop and my barbers. I actually hate taking cash out to go in to both of those but the food is worth it and I cannot find a local barber near me that takes card. Any change I get I go straight into bookies and put an acca on for the exact amount I have left, I don't even own wallet that allows me to easily carry any cash.

Taxi drivers, most takeaways and corner shops, the last bastions of cash only are now slowly giving in.

Well I have notifications turned on for my bank so it instantly shows the transaction. But yeah most of us are very nonchalant when paying via contactless.

I've been cashless for quite a few years now. So it won't really affect me. Selfish reasons I suppose in that everything I spend I get airmiles. Had quite a few free flights. If I paid in cash I'd get nothing. Also my cc doubles the warranty on goods and if online goods don't arrive I get a refund.

One thing that irks me about cash is that nearly every tradesman I've used says, if you pay cash I can give you discount plus no GST (our VAT) , they all seem to be at it. They just want cash.
I've been an employee all my life and paid PAYE, never avoiding tax like self employed tradesmen do. That bit of a cash society irks me. Several hundred thousands of tradies doing this must rob the tax office bigtime.

RE: Taxis. I’m trying to cut down on them to force me to walk to places but I use the local app here and Bolt / Uber in bigger cities.

It must be win win for cabbies. Money straight in the bank, no need to worry about changing big notes, an ability to turn down scrotes with a low passenger rating and no chance of anyone doing a runner without paying.

I was at Wythenshawe Hospital today. It’s pay on exit in the car parks there. None of the machines where I was parked were accepting card payments and many visitors were scrambling around for cash. It was ridiculous.
Had that a couple of months ago. Like something from the dark ages at the pay machine

When I checked my bank a/c when I got home I found out I had been charged £119 for one transaction in Istanbul. Robbing bastards. I bet I wasn’t the only one either.

Keep seeing leaflets about the dangers of a cashless society. Will it be that bad if we go totally digital?

It isn't going to happen, might as well ask how much a lb of moon cheese will cost in 5 years time.

If you want them to pay their VAT just tell them, obviously you do not mind paying more, but you will find you are talking about millions of self employed people trying to keep their heads above water, as for tax you will also find they are the ones paying a higher % of their income on tax.
