Beaumaris as well. Never completed, but had features in the design they learned from the older castles weaknesses. Off set outer and inner gates so they could have more time to kill would be attackers.
The Bankes has just been given a rating of one by the food standards agency.....nice garden for a drink tho....the Square and compass is worth a visit when down the Purbecks way....https://www.squareandcompasspub.co.uk/ and the Scott Arms for great views over Corfe Castle and they have a jerk shack in the garden at weekends....I’ve never been to the Pig but a work colleague was raving about the food, but moaning at the cost, when he visited.
The Bankes Arms is also a great pub. Separate to pubs I love the Cafe on Durlston Head overlooking the sea, when the sun is out no better place for a breakfast.
