Unless the power-mongers start talking this is going to get very very bloody, I can't see Spain allowing it and I can't see the Catalans who want independence giving in and taking a backward step.

Having fired up the population Puigdemont ducked it yesterday and passed the buck to the Parliament. He knows there is no way forward and Rajoy is making political capital on being tough with Catalonia. Handling has been inept and somewhat cowardly by Puigdemont and Rajoy has been heavy handed and tone deaf. Trouble is being heavy handed increases Rajoy's popularity and perception is Puigdemont is now running scared.
