I don't think it's an attitude problem, to be honest. Moreso an "American" or environment thing. If you look at AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) basketball, youth American football, etc. It is all about swagger, personality and showboating/shit-talking. He's just a product of that.

I think he'll be fine. He comes from a sporting family. He'll know how to be professional.

It's potentially down to the other guy as much as him. If he does end up with us, any attitude issues will have to have improved by then. Any small issues we'd be able to fix.

It's not that he demanded the free kick, it's that after making an assist, he turned to gloat to his own teammate. Can't fix that type of arrogance. He wasn't joking, he was "don't challenge me".
We see this all the time in youth football, the kid who was the best in their school and plays in age levels above thinks they're indispensable.
They struggle to adapt to a different environment when they step up.
It's not the end of his career but it means he has much further to go than his talent makes him appear

Yeah, but does that translate to football success? Nope. He'll be binned off if he tries that at City.

Yeah, but he's 14. I don't think he's allowed at City til he's 18 - plenty of time to grow up. If he does and he's good enough, he'll be with us and he'll have to continue proving himself. If he doesn't, that's that.

Just being wary also of reading too much into one incident. Admit it raises concerns, but that's all at this stage.

If City were binning off 14 year olds every time they fought over a free kick, we'd never have any players in the u16's and up.
I agree. I only saw him push the other guy away for the free kick. So maybe there was more, but this wouldn’t raise any eyebrows for me (how do we know the other guy wasn’t trying to take it out of turn, also).

I have a 14 yo and a 17 yo and am around plenty of sports assholes. But at this age, I do feel like one of the biggest differentiators of success (obviously in addition to working hard etc) is a belief that you are the best and you can get it done. I don’t think this is any indication of how he’d be with older more experienced players - I don’t think he’d push Phil out of the way! Even at these young ages, my boys know when to wear the arrogant hat and when (if you’re with someone better) to take a step back and learn.
