Cavani (continued)

We'd be nuts to spend 55 million on this guy. Only been prolific at Napoli . I still think we should sell them Ballotelli, though but look elsewhere for a replacement . Falcao over this guy IMO. Lot more consistent scorer and in a better league .

League

Falcao - 17 goals in 16 games

Cavani - 16 goals in 16 games

All Comps

Falcao - 22 goals in 19 games

Cavani - 24 goals in 20 games (+2 as sub)

Nothing in it at all.

I never judge a player over just one season so therefore meant goal scoring record over their footballing career, hence why I mentioned him only really doin it at Napoli . Falcao has a much better record for his whole footballing career than cavani.

Cavani - Napoli where the game style is built to fit his one.

Falcao - anywhere he played

That doesn't mean Cavani is not great striker, only that some would probably ask themselves where's Cavani from Napoli if he would sign for City.

Napoli play on the counter, which is the same way they played ever since Walter Mazzarri took over. It was used to great effect the season before Cavani arrived. When he was at Palermo, he was younger and Palermo were a less dominant team. He still scored roughly 1 in 2.

Falcao wasn't so prolific in his younger days at River. At Porto he became more prolific as they were a more dominant team, in a league which is one of the weaker 'top level' leagues in Europe. He didn't finish with the golden boot in either of his seasons at Porto. It was his goal record in the Europa League which was brilliant.

He's been brilliant for Atletico, but you could argue that the team is actually more set up for him there, than Cavani's is at Napoli - with Diego Simeone being Falcao's coach at both River Plate and Napoli.

Both brilliant strikers, and aside from Ronaldo and Messi, they're best two in the world imo. Just don't see how one can be clearly favoured over the other, especially since we probably have a much more realistic chance of signing Cavani.

Not really a fair comparison as Serie A is much stronger than the Portuguese league, and Porto are much stronger than the majority of the teams in the rest of that league.

Aside from his Europa League campaign where he scored 17 in 14, i'd argue that Cavani's record at Palermo was probably just as impressive as Falcao's league record at Porto.

Since he became a regular starter in 2008 Cavani has 92 goals in 155 games. 69 of those games were for Palermo who finished 8th and 5th respectively in his two seasons there. He has 65 in 86 for Napoli.

Falcao has 83 in 101, but 41 have come in Portugal, where players like Hulk and Oscar Cardozo were just as prolific. He was 1 in 3-ish at River Plate (34 in 90) and was playing there whilst Cavani was playing in Serie A, despite Cavani being 1 year younger. He has scored more goals, but he was a main striker in a comparatively weaker league whilst Cavani was a teenager trying to breakthrough at Palermo.

At league level, Falcao has 116 goals in 191 games. Cavani has 108 goals in 220 games. When you consider 141 of Falcao's games have been played in the Argentinian and Portuguese Leagues, there's practically nothing to seperate them.

Either you're taking the piss or you don't know what the word 'prolific' means.
