Cavani Speculation/News (page 151 onwards)

Re: Cavani Speculation/News

Is it new, or an old story re-hashed?

Not convinced Real Madrid would meet the buy-out when they have Ronaldo. They could come to an understanding with the player though. Stay at Napoli and we'll come and get you in 12 months etc

The quotes are from today.

Cavani would replace Higuain who is in talks with Juventus, he'd play the centre forward role with Benzema on the bench (or sold too), so it wouldn't affect Ronaldo. Slightly worrying, just have to hope we have done enough ground work to complete this deal.

Napoli also still think they have a chance of keeping him.

Re: Cavani Speculation/News

As long as Ronaldo is there, someone like Suárez is a better fit for Madrid imo. Would create more room for likes of Ronaldo and/or potentially Bale. Cheaper too.

I agree that Cavani doesn't make so much sense.

Re: Cavani Speculation/News

Our current forwards are not good enough to win us the league & progress in Europe. My worry is if we miss out on Cavani to Madrid and are not interested in Falcao, who else is realistically out there (available & who would come to us) that would improve us?

Higuain and Benzema are not an improvement. Ibrahimovic is what 31/32 and how much would we have to pay psg and him to make that deal happen. Luis Suarez would improve us ++ but would not sign for another English club IMO.

So for me I'd pay Napoli whatever they ask for (providing its no more than £50m) and get this deal done. A clinical finisher needs to be our prioity and sometimes you have to pay more than a player is worth to guarantee his signing. Just hope if we miss out on this lad it's not because we haven't pushed the boat out to get him.

Sign some younger, lesser known players for the future rather than going for the obvious, overpriced targets. There are players who will be coveted on here two years from now, just as much as Cavani & Falcao are now.

Put the effort into identifying & signing them instead.

I think it's very unusual for clubs with the spending power of the likes of Us, Real Madrid, Bayern etc to unearth unknown gems that turn out to be super stars. Mainly because we just don't have to. Even youth players are often reasonably known quantities.

We can buy Cavani, and we can buy the next Cavani, but the next Cavani might not come from Napoli, just like the next Sanchez probably won't come from Udinese. We have more money and we'll spend more, because the lines are finer and we just don't need to take the risk. Why risk player A being the next Falcao when we can just buy Falcao? Let the clubs without the spending power blood the players and we'll just have our pick of the best when we know who they are. Sounds parasitic but that's football.

We'll eventually begin to bring through youth which will no doubt involve a lot of failed potential, but we'll still be paying more for the most promising youngsters. And there will still be clubs like Napoli unearthing gems that all the big clubs didn't want to take a punt on.

That's fine if we succeed in getting Cavani. If however we severely limit our options like Mancini did, to 'I want X' but 'X' signs for someone else, we come 2nd again.

Benitez told to Napoli president that if Cavani will leave, his priority as forward will be Dzeko

Why ?

That's unavoidable though. There will always be players so good that a top team somewhere is missing out on them. I'm sure we have alternatives to Cavani if we need a centre forward (I don't think we do but that's another discussion).

Re: Cavani Speculation/News

I think our forwards like Aguero and Dzeko can give so much more

I would like City to buy a left back to cover Clichy and a quick wide forward.

Do you risk an entire season on our strikers becoming more clinical? Even in our title winning season we weren't that clinical, we just created an incredible amount of chances - which is a bit tougher now as people understand better how we play. I think the fact we're targeting a very expensive striker says a lot about how the club thinks.

Utter tosh.

Chelsea won it in 2010 with a strike-force of two over-30s in Drogba and Anelka (and set the highest # of goals scored in a single season ever), the rags won it the year after with Shrek, Little Pea-nis, and Berbaflop. Yet somehow Aguero, Tevez and Edin aren't enough?

Even in Europe, who has a strike force better?

Barca - Messi, Villa
Real - Benzema, Higuain
Bayern - Gomez, Mandzukic
Dortmund - Lewandowski

The 4 best clubs in Europe right there and I'd take ours over any of theirs, minus Messi obv. What we should be worried about more than blowing £50m on another world class striker is getting a manager who can get the best out of them in them first place, which Bob was unable to do this year.

Bollox Aguero would walk into any side in the world

Tevez, Aguero, Dzeko - how many are clinical? None.

You are talking out your arse because it depends on the competition at the time. The Chelsea & United teams you mentioned had fuck all in the way of challengers.

We won the league on goal difference (and as the guy above said even then despite bagging loads we were still far from clinical in front of goal) then united added a world class clinical finisher to their squad and the title was over in late January/ early February.

This year we are competing with them minus ferguson but still a squad who won the league by February. Mourinho going back to Chelsea will make them title challengers straight away like it or not. This will be the hardest premier league title to win possibly ever as you will have 3 genuine challengers. It will come down to taking your chances in the big games and you can not honestly tell me in a game where you might only get half a chance to score that you'd be confident in our lot to stick it away.

No he wouldn't. And i'm not saying he's not a world class player because he is, but of you think he's a clinical finisher your deluded. He's 1 in 3 or 4 good chances.
