Cavani Speculation/News (part 4)

A more apt comparison would be someone like Ian Wright. An absolute machine for Palace and Arsenal and one of the best strikers in the Premier League for 8 years, never looked the same for England. Andy Cole and Stan Collymore, too. Uruguay to me look like a Mancini team at their worst - throw strikers on the pitch and hope for individual brilliance to save the day (like the QPR game). There's little coming from midfield. Although Cavani did have a bad game irrespective of that but it happens. Suarez has looked very poor too in this tournament besides his free kick. His passing has been absolutely shambolic.

Uruguay's team just goes to show the problems a national team can have. They talked about it this week on guardians football weekly pod about how if you don't have a GK for your national team you can't just go out and sign one like you can at club level. Don't judge someone based solely on their national team performances.

Suarez has been 10 x better than Cavani.

I didn't think anyone would try and defend his performances and this attempt to do so is rather weak. Forlan and Suarez look the part and have played at an acceptable level. Cavani has been so poor it's hard to believe its the same player

It is hard to understand. Two factors in play are

1) Confidence
2) Uruguay don't build their game around him

Truth I am sure in both

The best argument in defence of bidding for Cavani is hos club form and the comparison with RVP at the Euros. But RVP would be less of a gamble. We all knew he could play at Arsenal / Utd /City, the question was his age and whether he would play with or instead of Aguero.

I'll be amazed if anyone bids anything like what Napoli want
Move on

Cavani has always had the look of Bernardo Corradi to me........ During the Confed cup he's started to play like him too!

Lewandowski or Higuain @ £25m anyone?

Price tag put on his head not his fault. Must add pressure to perform. He knows he is a £40mil player, as it looks like his owner wants silly money surely only a matter of time before interested parties start to look at cheaper options. Higuain for me.

A section of Napoli's fans are turning against him.

Banners have gone up in the city telling him to make up his mind, and to stop messing Napoli about.

Keep saying it but here we go again, not worth anything above 30m. He's not better than Aguero and should not valued at the same price as Bale.

Napoli (maybe Cavani also) are really shooting themselves in the foot here. Someone that will cost around the figure they want should be world class. I hear people saying, he is playing for his country and a different system to what he is used to. That is ok if your just talking about him scoring the type of goals he is used to, but sorry, his control is woeful and that is a basic skill no matter what shirt you wear. Time to move on alternatives that will suit us better, i am hoping our guys are already on the case

Cavani is world class, his performances for Uruguay mean nothing IMO.
He is a level above the strikers we have now and if possible we should be doing everything to bring him in.

If we don't buy Cavani there is no point bringing in someone for the sake of it and selling Dzeko. They have to be a genuine improvement.

A 53million footballer should be able to fit in any team and certainly with his national team.
Yeah that Messi sure was a bum all those years for Barcelona when he was dire for his national team, wasn't he? Barca should have moved heaven and earth to get Lukas Podolski. Proper player there. Always performs for the national team.

You are comparing Messi with fuckin Cavani.. ?? Keep on you are doing a great job comparing a best player that has ever played the game with fuckin Cavani...

Its a joke really. If we actually sign this guy he will become me for the amount of times he will need to defend him cuz he will do fuk all in our system and hes overated.

-- Fri Jun 21, 2013 12:31 pm --
