Chelsea and Manchester City have been given further encouragement in the race to sign transfer target Edinson Cavani, as Napoli fans appear to have turned on him.

Both the Blues and Citizens have reported been trying to sign the Uruguay international, though Real Madrid have also been strongly linked with a move.

Things may be sped up now, as Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that Napoli fans have been putting up banners telling Cavani to leave Naples as soon as possible.

The report claims the 26-year-old speaking openly about his desire to leave the Stadio San Paolo has not gone down well with the Napoli faithful.

Chelsea and Manchester City could see this development as a positive as they attempt to convince the prolific forward to choose Stamford Bridge or Etihad Stadium.

However, the Premier League duo may be hard pressed to beat Real Madrid in the pursuit of Cavani, as the comments that have so angered Napoli fans are mostly about his dream of joining the Santiago Bernabeu club.

Hope Napoli get their comeuppance for trying to bleed the suitors dry. He may now go for a lot less than us or Chelsea offered. If he does not want to come here i don't want him.

That's just a rehashed story from elsewhere.

The big thing on the Cavani front could be if Lescott leaves.

We'd need 2 cb's and that could eat into the striker budget

why does it say Navas is 22 million? Thought it was 14.9 million...

Yes think he was, but the more the better in the US press. Spending big impresses the yanks.

Yeah that Messi sure was a bum all those years for Barcelona when he was dire for his national team, wasn't he? Barca should have moved heaven and earth to get Lukas Podolski. Proper player there. Always performs for the national team.

You are comparing Messi with fuckin Cavani.. ?? Keep on you are doing a great job comparing a best player that has ever played the game with fuckin Cavani...
No. I'm not. What is wrong with you? Seriously. Here let me spell it out for you simply.

You can not judge a player by national team success and failure.

Easy.

You are the one using Messi to justify Cavani's dire performances for his country not me, but anyways.
No one is judging Cavani only on his national team performances but they surely are exploding his weaknesses which everybody can see.

In Napoli the whole team/system is only set up for Cavani to succeed and although he has scored a lot of goals for Napol he has no competition upfront whatsoever and Napolis second best goalscorer last two years in the Series A was a Hamsik a midfielder. Hamsik this season had 11 goals and last season 9 goals and he's their 2nd best goalscorer.

Nobody knows how he will adapt to Premier League and most importantly how he will adjust playing with other 2-3 great strikes which any other top team has.
He's overpriced by £20-25 mill.

For all you posters saying don't want him etc etc just wait till we get Napoli in CL and he rips us apart again. (Hoping that he won't with Pellegrini in charge)

ADL isn't crying any tears if noone wants to pony up the buy-out.

And dont fool yourselves into thinking this lowered his pricetag.

This worked out perfectly for Napoli - ADL gets to keep his man

Why are people saying oh we shouldn't buy him because you don't know if he can do this or he can play with him.

If we used that same mantra all the time we wouldn't have any players!
Aguero cost a fortune, no guarantee he was going to make such an impact.
Silva, again a big fee and a huge risk.
You can keep going.

I personally think he is a star, I don't use international football as any kind of marker for their ability because if I did then I would want us to sign Hernandez and Robbie Keane!

I don't think he will sign which is a shame but I just hope Chelsea don't get him!
