"Cedric" Boyata

Anyone that plays with Kompany looks OK. You only find out about them when he's not around. Boyata is not the answer and making a judgement on one pre-season friendly is mad.

No Kompany and we would have been at least a couple of goals down by HT yesterday.

Young? He's 22.

Compare with other defenders that we've bought young or developed:
Nastasic, 20 and way better, but still has plenty to learn
Kompany: 22 when he joined us, 27 now. Matured as world class defender at 25.
Onuoha 25 when he left for QPR. Capable defender, formed good partnership with Dunne in 08-09 at 22
Boateng 21 when he joined us, 22 when he left. Whingeing fucker who left gaps at the front post and told everyone that he was better than he was. Much improved at Bayern, now 24.

Other recent defenders: Kolo, now at Liverpool is only 32, which surprised me, I thought that he was 36ish and Lescott is now 30.

You could see that Vincent was talking to him and helping him along. I think that he's still got plenty of potential, but at this stage he needs tough games alongside an old pro to show him how to be more commanding. Unfortunately he's not going to get that at City at the moment and the best he can hope for is no 3 behind Vinny & Nasty in 2 years time. If he wants to stay at the club he needs to go on loan again to develop (I wish we had NYCFC set up already) which is probably a very frustrating scenario for him.

for defender, 22 years old relatively still young and still developing. you mention about Kompany arrived at City at the same age. he's not the world beater either. he's unknown Defensive Midfield player (except for FM gamers), while back than Centre Back is not his natural position. I still remember Kompany started playing as DM for City.

Boyata is a decent young player. All he need is chance and mentored by senior/leader. If he playing along side Kompany or another CB leaders (Pepe/Rami), he will do just fine.

Was good but need to prove it in the prem where it is much more physical. Loans moves haven't been the best for him although he was played at rb.

He proved it three seasons ago against Chelsea. He looked like THAT Boyata last night. If he can play like he did in those two games, we do indeed have a CB that can play with the big boys.

-- Fri Aug 02, 2013 9:44 am --

Sorry don't agree, was at fault for 2nd goal.

Wrong he was left 2 on 1 by Zabba, who was not good tonight.

Boyata did fine after a shaky start against the European Champions

zabbas defending tonight was gash

Yep which made Boyata's performance at RCB all that much better.

Yes correct, Vincent was a DM when he joined us. Unfortunately a player had to be as advanced in their development as Nastasic was when he joined us to get in Mancini's team, which was part of his downfall. Liverpool used to play their future CB's at LB & RB before moving to CB. I used to like this method, however in modern day football there's more emphasis on the fullbacks to attack, so the only way that you can put a new defender in is to play them at DM, in the cups or against the poor teams.

We've just spent a whole season building the Kompany/ Nastasic partnership up. The centre back partnership is the most important pairing on the pitch and it's a tough call to bring inexperienced players into these positions as we are expected to win every game these days.

Do we have a premier league centre back on our hands?
I thought he was brilliant tonight!

Didn't Bolton go down when he was there on-loan? ...... just saying ...... rather see Pepe, Rami or Hummels.

Kompany has always been a centre back. He was just played in midfield (and did a sterling job) for his first 12months with City

Can't blame him for being at fault for the goal, he's still got Drogba in his pocket from three years ago!

Joking aside, when he first broke through he looked like a real talent, strength and composure in abundance. Not really sure what happened since then, maybe the red card knocked him, maybe Mancini didn't have faith in him, maybe he was afterall just a flash in the pan. I'm a strong believer that some players can make it at any point in their career given the right guidance, just because Nastasic is 20 doesn't mean that Dedryk is a lost cause at 22. Hopefully Pellegrini has spotted a reccurence of the talent that we all saw back in 2009 and has some kind of role in the squad for him.

Played very well last night, and has been poor numerous times. Deserves praise for last night but I don't see him improving dramatically. Has been played at RB enough times for me to question whether he has the abilities as a CB.

For me his negatives outweigh his positives, unfortunately.
