Sorry don't agree, was at fault for 2nd goal.

Wrong he was left 2 on 1 by Zabba, who was not good tonight.

Boyata did fine after a shaky start against the European Champions

zabbas defending tonight was gash

I have to agree. Absolutely all over the place. Ribery made him look like an idiot at times. But Ribery can do that I guess.

City's defending was superb yet just because BT Sport choose to focus on Zab's positioning we get this debate

Bayern had 2/3rd of possession but did not create as many clear cut chances so that suggests our defending was better than theirs, or our attacking was wonderfully incisive

He did good, but i prefer Micah all day over him (sorry) and Zableta had a mare, fault for both goals.

Surprise by Boyata to say the list .Had a great game and he could be good with Kompany who is insane good last night.Yap we lost the game but against Bayern in Munich against them and refs . we lost because we did not go with first team Bayern did , we create at list 5 clear chances score 1 and we have Zabba who is not yet in form and that penno was just to funny like that free kick on Nouer 40 meters from hes goal he was threat like he is in goalkeeper space, Yellow for Boyata was also funny and a lot of refs influence . We play good game and i m please Negredo score first goal , we play good in second half , create a lot and Bayern play hard on us .Barry is a bit worry for me , Zabba will get in that form.Barry was a bit like not on pitch.

Played well, I thought - surprisingly well, given how long he's been off the scene, and given the reports that he'd not looked particularly good during his loans.

Of course, playing with VK in that kind of form does kind of make things easier, but he was still up against class players, and his covering in behind Zabba on the (countless) occasions when Ribery got in was impressive. Still looks as promising as he did when he first came through - just needs games and confidence.

He is an ok defender, can't see him making it with us but will get a decent career with a bottom half premier league team or a good championship team.

I think his positioning sense lets him down.

Was it Bolton he was on loan at last year and couldn't start for them? Why was that, he seems to be at least good enough to start for a championship team?

To be honest, I think Vinnie just makes whoever he plays with look pretty good.
Exactly, because he's such a dominant centreback. Every ball in the air is his, etc.

He needs a partner equally dominant as he.

The only reason we are thinking he's a decent player is coz of vinny. I think he should be sent on 1 or 2 more loans. We should consider signing astori or pepe

Young? He's 22.

Compare with other defenders that we've bought young or developed:
Nastasic, 20 and way better, but still has plenty to learn
Kompany: 22 when he joined us, 27 now. Matured as world class defender at 25.
Onuoha 25 when he left for QPR. Capable defender, formed good partnership with Dunne in 08-09 at 22
Boateng 21 when he joined us, 22 when he left. Whingeing fucker who left gaps at the front post and told everyone that he was better than he was. Much improved at Bayern, now 24.

Other recent defenders: Kolo, now at Liverpool is only 32, which surprised me, I thought that he was 36ish and Lescott is now 30.

You could see that Vincent was talking to him and helping him along. I think that he's still got plenty of potential, but at this stage he needs tough games alongside an old pro to show him how to be more commanding. Unfortunately he's not going to get that at City at the moment and the best he can hope for is no 3 behind Vinny & Nasty in 2 years time. If he wants to stay at the club he needs to go on loan again to develop (I wish we had NYCFC set up already) which is probably a very frustrating scenario for him.

I thought he could have been very good for us, especially after his solid debut(?) against united in the carling cup SF but since that Arsenal sending off Mancini never trusted him and his career seemed to take a slide. Maybe Pellegrini sees his potential and is willing to work with him, would be nice to see him stay and progress as one of our academy products.

The worst thing Boyata can do right now for me would be to go out on Loan again to some shitty lower league club whose manager doesn't know what do to with him.

He'll learn far more training regularly with the likes of VK and would gain more confidence.
He should then be used in matches such as League/FA Cup games.... and in Prem matches when we've wrapped up the match.
