Celtic game - strict security measures announced (page 34)

I hope you're not trying to occupy the moral high ground here with your Celtic hat on.

Almost certainly 'the hostility from a home section towards an away support' was influenced by the anti English, pro IRA, chanting in town all afternoon.

I assumed he was being sarcastic :-(

Interesting that a complaint made to City earned a response of "UEFA dish out those tickets and there's nothing we can do" etc. I might have to withdraw from the 17/18 Cup Scheme. This is gutting because I want to do an away trip or two and being able to obtain a ticket to sit with my own fans will be much more difficult.

Due a call back from City today. I already know what they're going to say.

Just had my call back from Holly at the club. Apparently the fact that there were Celtic fans all over the home areas is nothing to do with the club. They only sold tickets to people with a previous purchase history, and did not sell to Celtic fans. There is nothing they can do if City fans purchased tickets and passed them on to Celtic fans.

So there it is. We as fans don't count cos they have a system in place which doesn't work, but they are happy with it.

For the Everton game I put my son's ticket on the ticket exchange. There was an Everton fan sat next to me. When I asked how he managed to get the ticket he said that he just rang the club and bought it over the phone. Presumably you didn't need previous purchase history for that game. A little consistency wouldn't go amiss.

Is that fucking right Holly?
My mate wasn't allowed to buy a ticket for Barca away and pass it onto me.

I'm absolutely convinced that in 105 on Tuesday night, if either side had scored a decisive goal in the last 10 minutes, it would have kicked off big time.

Will it take City fans getting hurt by away fans (and the subsequent compensation claims) before the club take this seriously?

They don't give a shit about City fans , they just want to shift the tickets and get bums on seats.

I sat in the home end for this one as City are my English team and I attend quite frequently, however Celtic are my Scottish team and being from Scotland, my first love.

I've never felt more hostility from a home section towards an away support in my life and that was before a ball was even kicked.
Large groups of fans squaring up to each other through a steel barrier on the concourse, petulant chants about Rangers etc. (which I always find bizarre considering they trashed the city but anyway...)
Can't help but feel this was fuelled by the overwhelming amounts of security surrounding the ground as that often plays on peoples minds that the game will be a heated affair.
Traditionally both clubs travel abroad in good spirits and having spent all day in the city centre, there was zero animosity (same applied for the game in Glasgow) so felt the security measures were unnecessary.

thats always been the case. if you get away fans celebrating goals in the home end it will be hostile. and more than likely you'll get a fight. we arent like fulham and we as fans wont accept large numbers of away fans in our sections and we never have done. it didn't help that celtic fans were singing pro ira songs in manchester.

There were a few strange things about the security. The Celtic stewards just looked out towards us/ the home end. In Glasgow there were few stewards in the away end and it was mainly police doing crowd control..

Btw I was next to the Celtic fans and most of us joined in with your just a shit Man Utd but there was only a handful singing your just a shit Glasgow Rangers. I liked Rangers once but I can't stand them now.
