This may sound crazy but I wouldn't be opposed to hanging onto Mangala, he didn't play THAT badly against the rags last week considering they had him playing outside.

I wish, Jonathan Tah would be a great option.Anyone know if we are/really were interested in Leverkusen's Jonathan Tah? Other than being a big strong lad I don't know too much about him. Would he be a good option?

Wby should they be able to do that?Can Martinez cover the left back area? I think whoever we sign needs to be capable of playing both CB and LB, perfect choice would be Alaba, but it's nigh on impossible to prise him from Bayern.

I think the logic behind the CB being able to cover LB is that we have just sold Kolarov who did just that.
I might be in the minority but I can't see the logic in loaning out Mangala with us paying part of his wages at the same time we spend a fortune on a new defender. Wouldn't we be better keeping Mangala?
I think we are trying to sell Mangala rather than loan him. Presumably Pep thinks he just is not good enough as we didn't use him last season. Think we need a decent centre half though. I don't think Pep could get the best out of Mangala. Either that or his style of play didn't fit Pep's system. Regardless, we really need at least another CB and DM to be capable of holding our own against the best of Europe. Kompany injured and we are depleted of world class talent in that area; Yaya on his last legs - need a replacement soon.

Any chance of Javi Martinez? CB and holding mid and Bayern already have Boateng and Hummels at CB.

No, to me he's not lived up to his hype. He was one of the few names in the young CB bracket of the future, but I can't see him reaching the level of say Van DIjk. The one that got away is to me Niklas Sule. A big unit who is fast and ploughs through opposing players with both physicality and dribbling finesse.
Tah wouldn't add a lot to our style, he's more of a Lescott type CB who is reliable as the anchor in defense but not clinical with passing and contributing to attacking play.

Good player but he has been bought by Bayern already. It will be interesting to see if he gets any game time. The competition seems unbeatable: Hummels, Boateng and Martinez.

Yep that's why I said the one that got away. He's still developing as a player as well.

Anyone else think we're set for this position? Otamendi was excellent last season and Kompany is a world-beater. In the event he gets injured, we have both Stones and Tosin who deserve a lot more minutes this season and another CB would only stall their development.
