I too agree with this. Only Chelsea has let in fewer goals and these two haven't even had a full season together and different fullbacks almost every game. Give them a full year and I bet we will reap the benefits. That said I would hate to lose Boateng because he is not getting time.
The issue is not the goals we let in.

Re: THE OFFICIAL CB THEARD!!!!!!

I have question, why Lescott can play as a Centre Back and Kolarov couldn`t ? What makes Lescott more suitable to this position than Kolarov !

Carlos Puyol play as a Centre back or full back, same thing for Ivanovic and David Luiz.

I hope the experts here in the board will explain what makes Lescott better centre back than Kolarov.

All due respect Dax, what's the issue? A defender's main purpose is to protect the goal. Are you referring to distribution?

mentality, kolarov is a very attack minded wing back probably due to his time at lazio when they played 3-4-3 with kolarov playing futher up than a Lb and just behind the Lm position, with the defence scooting right when he tracked back. Lescott is a cb by trade. I think i see where your coming from with kolarovs height etc but his jumping takling and indecisiveness would lead us to leak in goals like we had jo back there

Re: THE OFFICIAL CB THEARD!!!!!!

Kolarov haven't played at CB and he has no experience at CB. So his positional sense there is not as good as in LB position. He is LB trough and trough.

All this talk about new CB and when Tolmie revealed we are looking for one made me drool for a world class CB. But i think Lescott and Kolo has to go then.

Subotic might be good. I would be over the moon if he came...i would also welcome Lovren. Looks very good and very promising. And he plays LCB..just what we are looking for. I think Subotic plays LCB too with Hummels?

Both would do for me. Kompany is a beast at RCB.

IF you look at football in strict segments, then yeah your claim makes sense. But it is much more fluid than that. A defender who can't defend will not make the team (any team) for long. So saying a guy can defend is barely the minimum he should be able to do. What differentiates top teams from midlevel teams (which I believe is an ambition of City') is the extra they bring to the table. Saying Lescott can defend doesn't do much, considering a thousand defenders can defend. The reason why most are not playing for top teams is because they bring nothing else.

Yes, distribution is part of what I am talking about. Comfort on the ball is another. Positive movement when in possession e.t.c. I mean Danny Shittu was a fantastic tackler too, yet I wouldn't expect any top team to go get him. It takes more than saying look at how well I tackle to be a top defender. And Lescott (improved as he has been) is not a top defender. Having another one gets us that much closer to Nirvana.

Terry, Luiz, Ivanovic (top defenders)
Camel and Vidic (top defenders)
Nesta, Thiago Silva (top defenders)
Carvahlo, Pepe (top defenders)
Pique, Puyol (
Hummels, Subotic

Generally speaking, the best teams at the top of their leagues have 2 excellent CBs. Not 1. We have one. Whether Lescott is doing a decent job or not will not be the issue when we are nudging shoulders with the other big boys.

Re: THE OFFICIAL CB THEARD!!!!!!

Dax

Based on your last post you would agree that Subotic is required, I'm not saying we would get him for a reasonable price but you are agreeing that someone of his stature is needed and I don't mean Cahill. I feel the same about the leftback position e.g. Coentrao. I would be happy if we got these 2 plus Sanchez. That would do me because these are the types of defenders we will need in the CL

I agree with almost everything you are saying. Kompany is class because he is incredible on the ball, but to argue that, would you say Vidic is great on the ball. To me Vidic is a no nonsense defender who just wants the ball no where near his goal. I still think he takes the cake for being the best defender in the world but Kompany is better on the ball than he is. And trust me, I know Lescott is not world class but Lescott and Kompany have good chemistry and play well alongside each other.

I might be wrong because I was watching on a small stream at work, but didn't Lescott run a ball down against Blackburn that was bouncing and he played a little left footed flick to Kompany over the charging striker barreling down on him. Again, just one example but I feel like they feed off each other well.

That said I also watched a YouTube clip of Kompany in the Derby in the middle of February, it has every single one of his touches and he is absolutely incredible. Had we landed Luiz, we would have had the top tandem in the world. I must also say I was impressed with what I saw out of Lovren.
