CFG | Academy | EDS in & out season 2021/22

I'm wrong in your eyes, some others too but i stand by what i say
Mate,I'll give you an example.....
My godson was in the academy, very highly rated.
Scored over 600 goals for us the time he was there,103 being the most in one season (I kid you not).
Think he was the youngest ever to be called up by England at youth level.
Signed a 6 year sponsorship with Adidas.
Was told by someone at City that there was no pathway to the first team and he would not go beyond U18 level.....he moved.
Expectations are very high at City.....there is no doubt about that.

Was easy enough in 86 when Hinchcliffe, Brightwell Redmond, Lake, White and Moulden helped to win the FA youth cup. 5 of those players played in the 5-1 'Maine Road Massacre' in 89. My point is they were given a chance and proved good enough.

I'd just like some our youngsters to be given a chance, that's all.

first thing is the 1986 youth team was about 3 to 5 years in making it to the finish article
plus football was different and manchester city was different. plus i would say only one was world class in paul lake
the rest was good players and how many went on to win something ? maybe only andy hinchcliffe with the FA cup in 1995

It basically comes down to individuals expectations from the academy. Yours is clearly it must bear more fruit for the first team. Surely you would agree, if there were more youngsters at the same level as Phil, then it would.

Even so, Phil has as much talent as any other player in his age bracket and still had to have the patience of a saint to wait for any real amount of chances. If he wasn't a boyhood fan then he might well have chosen to go the Sancho route.

Personally, I don't think that incredible amount of talent should set the bar for who makes it to the first team. People might think that sounds counter productive but we already have numerous players in the squad bought from other clubs who aren't at that standard.

Like you said, I guess it's all about expectations and being someone who used to go to academy games and bought into what Khaldoon said numerous times about youth integration, I can't help but feel disappointed.

Especially when there seems to be a constant cycle of people saying things like "this is the best group of kids we've ever had", then watching them get next to no minutes and then watching them leave.

The academy is built as extra revenue to help the clubs finances. If we produced a Phil Foden then that’s the cherry on the top!

Was Iheanacho ever part of our academy?
