CFG Expansion | Başakşehir to join? (p70)

Out of interest not sure it goes here but Cook allegedly sold the club to the Sheik on the basis of a few things the whole City United things the land and the price and the idea of everything in the world potentially being branded city which goes with anything

If the CFG is Soriano idea rather than the sheiks or Khaldoons what’s happening with Cooks idea given it worked so well originally in selling the club to the sheik rather than him buying all the other clubs he could have
I think they saw what Red Bull were doing and copied it. A bit like the Poznan.

Its branding exercise. The "City" brand is marketed across the world like this, without relying on pre season friendlies, instead giving the brand constant exposure in these markets.

All this leads to increased exposure for Manchester City, because when you see the words "City Group" or one of those clubs you immediately think Manchester CIty. (by this I mean the people in those markets)

This is the whole point of this.

Soriano wanted to do this with Barca, but was denied.

The fact that many still don't have a clue about the point of CFG, just shows how far ahead of time our execs
Or money wins out providing you are competent.

A lot of NYCFC fans seem to hate City though
They do...............a few years ago, I was in New York for a weekend with the family celebrating wifey's birthday. I wasn't aware but the MLS season was kicking off the next day. We were in Times Square and there was what looked like terracing full off people singing; they were NYCFC fans - quite impressive. The following day, I got up early to watch City v. Villa in a pub nearby the hotel and got speaking to a couple of local City fans who watched all the games - it was at the supporters club pub of the New York branch. I asked them about NYCFC and the support and they said, as others have mentioned, that most of their fans were United or Liverpool and only attached themselves to New York City as they were the local ' soccer ' team so they could actually watch live games rather than United and Liverpool on tele. He made it clear that City fans in New York were not fans of NYCFC for that reason....................pity I didn't know the previous evening as I spent $70 on a NYCFC shirt which I still have.............!!!

Have we bought the Ukrainian one to give Zinc something to do when he retires?

This is brilliant news and it will obviously stress our global standing even more and though it will take a few years, we will become a very strong brand throughout the world.

How the hell buying clubs most people have never heard of is going to help Manchester City is beyond me
In the grand scheme of things it might be good business for the owners but ain't a clue what it does for our club
Among other things, it gives us first dibs on prospective talent in these regions, the best of which will be brought to Manchester to join our Academy.

Sure they can't come to the academy any more.
Don't they have to be 18 now.
