They didn't need to play all out football but after first game score they needed one goal to pretty much seal it. But they came to play 0:0 and didn't have any intentions to attack.
I only watched extra time, but their tactics got them pretty close to winning and they probably had the better keeper and penalty takers. Good management is making decisions to take your team through. Atletico are the better team with the better players, were big favourites and yet he took them so close.
I rate Schmidt and what he has done at Leverkusen. If they can remain top 4 then he has had a brilliant season.
