So if we are pot 2 and Napoli pot 3, we will probably get them in our draw along with Bayern Munich or Barcelona from pot 1..

That's the ticket - though we have an equally good chance of getting any of the pot 1 teams UNLESS BT Sport pairs us with Chelsea -> in which case as soon as Chelsea are placed in the RED or BLUE half of the draw then we go in the other half. Instantly dropping our chances of a good draw.

We have previously been paired with United so I'd imagine that to be the case again. I think it's because UEFA can make sure we're at home when they're away and vice versa. Don't know if that will get confirmed prior to the event anywhere though.

If that is the case, hopefully Chelsea are put in the same half as Bayern and Barcelona and we'll have avoided them both before they even start drawing Pot 2.

Teams within 50 klms of each other cannot play on the same night.

If PSG remain ahead of Lyon in the French Ligue then our chances of getting any pot 1 team is 1/7. If we're paired with Chelsea by BT then that drops to 1/4 (and that's bad if Real AND Barca are in Pot 1).
An English teams chances of getting a good draw diminish as other English teams from the same POT are pulled out.

Real Madrid are unlikely to win their domestic league and are out of the Champions League, so not sure where they'll end up.

So far confirmed as pot 1 are Chelsea, Juve & Bayern. Not entirely sure what happens with the "champions" entry from La Liga/Serie A if Barca/Juve win both trophies. I'd like to think they'd put the champions from another country in.

EDIT: Just found this:

If the title holders are one of the champions of the top seven associations, the champions of the association ranked eighth are also seeded into Pot 1

Next in the list is currently Holland, so maybe PSV in Pot 1 and Madrid in Pot 2. That's my interpretation anyway.

Being realistic - we are now in pot 2 and there are no real underdogs in pots 3 and 4. We should be expecting to be in the last 16. And as there is a decent chance (only one English team) we get an ok team from pot one, we should be thinking of quarter finals.No excuses now.

Weren't we in pot 2 this year & still got drawn against the best teams from the other pots. It will again be fixed to ensure we go out early and global scumbags proceed - TV demands & all that. For those who believe it's not fixed - get real !!!

I hear you - but under the old system, a lot of teams who are now in pot 2 would have been in pot 1 - eg Real and Athletico - so we avoid them. And we have a wider spread of teams in pot 1 to be placed against. Before, once you took out the English, we could barely avoid Barca, real or Bayern. It's up to us now, really.

We made up a group of 4 league winners last year. At least that can no longer occur. Plus surely having the likes of Real in pot two increases the chances of us missing Barca and Bayern for a change. Not that we will.

I wonder if it is possible to wager on the following two things right now:

1) City drawn into group with Barca or Bayern; and/or,
2) rags NOT drawn into a group with Barca or Bayern.

Out of interest did they ever clarify the reason for the rule change. It seems obvious that it benefits us and is likely to have come about directly because of our tough group draws.

Same teams playing each other season after season. Not just us with Bayern, but Chelsea with Schalke, Arsenal with Dortmund etc.

Think the TV companies had a bit of a say in things.

though that would give Utd more of a chance of a stinker of a draw than us!

From Gill's UEFA ? LOL not a f*cking chance, they'll get the easiest qualifying game (assuming they have to, and then the three easiest 'other' teams in their group, and when they get through the easiest round 16 game too.

After that they'll be f*cked because the rest will be too good.

It seems to have only really happened the last 3 or 4 years though, how come? Or maybe I've only noticed it as we were in the competition.
