i see you have dodged the point being made

why do you think they can't tell everyone the TV pairings before the draw?

I was under the impression that the TV pairings were common knowledge (to an extent that is)?

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla qualify from spain - I'd be sure that Real Madrid & Sevilla would be one pairing with Barcelona & Atletico Madrid the other. This is because Real Madrid & Barcelona need to be kept apart for TV viewing reasons, and also it keeps the Madrid sides apart on the same night.

Same with England - I'd imagine the pairings would be a combination of one Manchester club and one London club.

That's not just me that assumes this, is it?

Sounds reasonable. So one would conjecture that the TV companies wouldn't want the media darlings of the rags and tarquins playing on the same night? So a pairing between the rags & Chelsea, and City/ Arsenal would make most sense.

Not sure. Suppose it would depend which of Arsenal or Chelsea takes in more viewers.

Re: Champions League 2015/16 seedings - City in pot 2/3?

According to the Daily Fail.

Manchester City confirmed for Pot 2 in Champions League group stage draw after Napoli crash out of the Europa League
Manchester City are all-but confirmed for Champions League qualification
The dethroned champions will be placed in Pot 2 for the group stage draw
That means they avoid a nightmare draw of facing Real Madrid

Arsenal and Manchester United will join City in Pot 2, although one of them is likely to have to face a play-off to confirm their qualification. Champions Chelsea and seven other domestic league winners from the continent are in Pot 1.

Real Madrid are the strongest side in Pot 2, provided that they do not stage a comeback to win La Liga, while City will also avoid Atletico and Porto.

we will get one of barca psg or bayern(again) from pot 1 i'm damn sure this will happen

Re: Champions League 2015/16 seedings - City in pot 2/3?

If Pot 2 contains 3 Spanish teams (Real / Atletico / Valencia) surely it is a statistical fact that we are more likely to get Barca than any other team from Pot 1.
From a Barca perspective they will only have 5 teams from Pot 2 that they can be drawn with, 3 of which are English.
Not sure how tv pairings affect this, but looks like 60% chance that an English team will be in same group as Barca.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind getting a tough group ? I know the financial and coefficient implications but in footballing terms we have to be pitching ourselves against the best. If there's any value in the CL, surely it's facing the best sides in Europe not the weakest.
Can you remember who Porto, the shite Liverpool or the poor Chelsea teams that won drew in the group or early rounds?

Or Nottingham Forrest for that matter?

Nope, people only remember the winners, not their route there.

I take that point but if we play Barca in the group stage we can afford to lose both games and still go through whilst getting much needed CL experience. I can't see the point in knocking down minor teams (or worse, getting knocked out by them as United have done from time to time) only to get knocked out by the first decent team we come across.

I think we're all agreed that the competition is rigged in favour of certain clubs and that isn't going to change any time soon. It may be a personal viewpoint but I think it would be more meritorious winning, or even getting to the semis, purely on merit. It can be done but we need to be good.

Pot 2

Re: Champions League 15/16 seeding - City CONFIRMED Pot 2 -

Sorry but those reports are bollox.
As things stand we are in Pot 2
BUT...
If Lyon win the French League (1 point behind PSG) then we're in Pot 3 again unless Sevilla get in front of Valencia in La Liga (3 pts behind) when we're in Pot 2 again.

6 points behind PSG with 2 games left and an inferior goal difference. PSG have it wrapped up.
