Interestingly we've had a 1 in 7 or 1 in 8 Chance of getting a Portuguese club in each of the 4 draws we have been in rather than Barca/Real/Bayern/PSG. It just hasn't happened yet.

Do you reckon barca or Bayern get pissed off when uefa keep pairing us with them?

I've just posted such on another thread. The Spanish papers were moaning that Barca had drawn a pub team when we got Real, and vice versa! They don't like us anyway. I still remember the audible groan in the auditorium when we first qualified and were drawn out. They certainly don't like us in their group!

So lets see:

1 - It is called the Champions league but 15 countries are allowed two or more teams.
2 - They go to all the trouble to give every country and club a coefficient but then consult with the TV companies before making the draw.
3 - The draw isn't a draw but a way of ensuring their favourite teams are kept apart for as long as possible.
4 - You can't play on the same day as another club from your country again because of the TV companies.
5 - you get shifted out of your seats for extra advertising or to accommodate the "European Family".
6 - It is sponsored by beer company but you are not allowed to drink in the stadium.
7 - They sell the rights to a TV company that not everybody has access to, unless they are prepared to pay extra.
8 - They invent FFP because they don't like you, hand out a large fine, restrict your squad then alter their rules (whatever they are) for other clubs.

I frankly am sick of the whole circus and have given it the big heave-ho next season, sorry MCFC but I don't have your enthusiasm for the whole corrupt farce.

Call me stupid, and u probably will but whilst previously reading this thread everyone was panicking that we would be in pot 3 cause Napoli might win the Europa league.

Come on today thinking everyone will be chuffed cause Napoli lost and we would prob be in pot 2 and now everyone moaning that we will get a tough draw cause we will be "paired" with Chelsea by BT Sport!!!

I don't get it whats BT Sport got to do with anything and I thought the only condition was you could not be drawn against a team from your own country!!

Please can someone explain in layman's terms?

I am sure that uefa will make something like this.

Pot A blue : Barcelona , Chelsea , Juventus ,PSG

Pot A red : Bayern , Benfica , Zenit , PSV

Pot B blue : Atletico , Porto , Leverkuzen , City

Pot B red : Real ,Arsenal, Man U , Valencia

City could face one of Barca , Juve or PSG

I think it's to do with the fact that 4 groups play on Tuesday, the other 4 on Wednesday. TV companies do not want certain teams to be playing on the same night. So they will "pair" the teams that they don't want playing on the same night. If we are paired with Chelsea (a top seed), then that means we obviously cannot draw them, as they are English anyway, plus the top seeds from the other three groups who play on the same night as Chelsea. That leaves 4 groups we can be drawn into. If we are paired with the scum or Arsenal, both second seeds, then we start with a chance of being drawn in any of the seven groups that don't contain Chelsea.

EDIT:
OK, having seen the post below, the pairing will be with a team that TV DO want us to play on the same night as. So, if it's Chelsea, then we cannot be drawn in their group, so that only leaves three other groups (that play on the same night) that we can go into. If A,C, E & G play on the same night, and Chelsea get A, then we can only go in C, E or G.
Hope that's clear!

why do you think they can't tell everyone the TV pairings before the draw?

I was under the impression that the TV pairings were common knowledge (to an extent that is)?

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla qualify from spain - I'd be sure that Real Madrid & Sevilla would be one pairing with Barcelona & Atletico Madrid the other. This is because Real Madrid & Barcelona need to be kept apart for TV viewing reasons, and also it keeps the Madrid sides apart on the same night.

Same with England - I'd imagine the pairings would be a combination of one Manchester club and one London club.

That's not just me that assumes this, is it?

I saw yesterday that Chelsea have NEVER played Real Madrid in the modernised Champions league. I find that very hard to understand considering both two of them have consistently been getting to semi-finals over the past 10 years or so.

Sounds reasonable. So one would conjecture that the TV companies wouldn't want the media darlings of the rags and tarquins playing on the same night? So a pairing between the rags & Chelsea, and City/ Arsenal would make most sense.
