If you notce my word fair is in quotations to infer my disliking of seedings. I was responding to a post who suggested the pots get further split based on TV viewings which isn't the case

I'm not sure you've understood this splitting for TV. There are 8 groups drawn, 4 of which play on a given night (Tuesday or Wednesday) but certain teams are kept apart on those nights. So Groups A-D will play on alternative Tuesdays then Wednesdays (call that Grouping 1) and vice versa for Groups E-H (which we'll call Grouping 2).

Where there are a few teams from each country, they will get split between the two TV groupings. So if Barca are in Grouping 1, Real Madrid will be in Grouping 2. The four English teams will be split between the two groupings, with two in each. That means, when you're drawn, if you're in one of those groupings, you can only go into one of four groups (A-D or E-H).

You also can't go into a group with a team from your own country meaning a further restriction on which group you can go in.

Last season City were pulled out of pot 2 and automatically allocated Bayern's group despite other groups still not having been allocated a pot 2 team. No draw was made.

In 2012-13 the pot 4 teams left were Cluj, Nordsjaelland and Dortmund to go into the groups containing City, Chelsea and the rags. Again, no draw was made. Dortmund were pulled out of the hat and were automatically allocated to City's group while the rags got Cluj and Chelsea got Nordsjaelland.

There's no point anyone telling me these were fair draws as they weren't draws at all. I remember being fucking outraged by the stitch ups on both occasions.

I've just watched the 2014/15 draw and it's actually a "fair" way to do the draw. Basically they have the 4 pots with the 32 teams and a seperate group pot that gets refilled everytime a team from pot 2 below gets drawn (the pot is refilled specific to which groups the drawn team can go in). It has nothing to do with splitting pots based on TV.

so for example

pot 1 teams will always have 1 in 8 chance of landing a particular group. so say Chelsea got pot A

pot 2 teams is where is gets more interesting so if Manchester City was drawn first out of pot 2 the group pot would only be refilled with balls from B to H. Lets say E as an example
The next team out is United then the group pot gets refilled with B,C,D,F,G,H

this carries on for the rest of the draw

Nope. I'm afraid you're wrong on this. I am a very sad individual and the Group Stage draw day is my Christmas Day - I have spreadsheets based on which airlines fly to the various airports closest to each team which qualifies. It's taken a while but I have learned how the draw works, and it isn't fixed - but weighted towards certain probabilities. Thankfully the probabilities have changed a bit this year.

For the ease of explanation I'll use the example of Barca and Real. As Barca are in Pot 1, lets say they get picked out first. They can be placed in any group A-H, lets say they get put in Pot C. All the other Pot 1 teams are drawn out and can be placed anywhere (with the exception of Chelsea this year, but too complicated to explain why on here without various diagrams). Then Pot 2 will be drawn. Real Madrid can only be placed in groups E F G or H. If you can find me an example in the last 5 years (probably longer) where Real and Barca have been in the same half (the halves are A-D and E-H) I will pay for you to go on a European trip next year.
