Champions League 15/16 seeding - City CONFIRMED Pot 2 - Pg20

Re: Champions League 2015/16 seedings - City in pot 2/3?

FFP was designed to stop us. But just think of the look on their faces when we win it. Priceless. We must now push on with only the very best young talent coming to the club. One day we will be the best team in the world.

Even the FA cup isn't as open as the Champions League and that is completely random.
How some people can say there is an agenda against City is laughable. Comedy gold actually. I mean why? What would anybody at UEFA gain from that.
13 different winners so must be good for football mustn't it?

The format was introduced and modified to keep the G-14 clubs happy and rich and avoid a breakaway European Super League.
After 1992 it was 12 years until a non G-14 club even reached the CL final - Monaco.
2012 saw the first and only team outside the G-14 to win it, Chelsea.
The last final not to have a G-14 club was 1980. It's only the third time it's happened in over 50 years. Keeping the rich happy.

G-14 was set up in 2000 with 14 clubs initially and 4 more added in 2002. With ECL stitched up they disbanded 2008 after agreeing commercial deals with UEFA & FIFA.

But Chelsea and City came in with a different model to spoil the party so FFP brought in. Too late arguably to stop Chelsea.
PSG were an original G-14 club so no problem there.

If G-14 was set up in 2000, then it's irrelevant what happened before then surely with regards to that.

You either have a short memory or forget non-G-14 member Atletico Madrid were in last years final.

Also some of that is absolute garbage. Commercialism in football like it is now with sponsorships etc only came into serious play in the mid 80's. That keeping the rich happy is a load of rubbish.

Sampdoria, Red Star Belgrade, Steaua Bucharest, Benfica, Hamburg, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Malmo, Club Brugge, Borussia Monchengladbach, St. Etienne, Leeds, Panithanikos, Celtic, Partizan Belgrade, Frankfurt, Stad de Reims, and Fiorentina have all made it to the final. So again shows it's an open competition. Also Valencia made it to the final in 2000, they weren't an original G-14 member.

I see you also fail to mention Malaga, only Chelsea and City. That's good awareness of European football.

I assume if Utd or Arsenal finish fourth and then fail to qualify that has a positive impact on a possible inclusion in pot 2?

Would certainly help us out that's for sure.

I'd be surprised if it's not us in fourth place come end of May though.

As long as we dont get Munich or CSKA I dont give a fcuk what pot we are in,

I find CL very predictable nowadays, love watching Europa though hope we are not in it!

Learn to read. "After 1992...." If you want to go back to 1956 and Reims then don't start you argument celebrating the CL since 1992.

Valencia were 1 of the 4 added in 2002 after being losing finalists 2 years running.

Yes Atletico were in the final last year but the point was about the rarity of both teams in the final not being G14.

The money was flowing into football and the CL was structured to placate the G14 and avoid a breakaway competition.

I'll give you Malaga as another where money was new.

That's the spirit...........we'll finish 2nd because we're better than Manure and Arsenal in the long run.

Re: Champions League 2015/16 seedings - City in pot 2/3?

If we finish 2nd or 3rd in the PL we will be in pot 2.

A 4th place finish in the PL and we will be in the play-off matches, which will be extremely tough.

... that ain't how football works mate.

Being "better than Manure and Arsenal in the long run" has hardly helped us gain more points over them in the last 3 months has it?!

Luckily we don't, play a 3 month season and over 9 months I expect to be 2nd or 3 rd
