We've been actually been involved in six ties that went to away goals and went through on the first occasion, against Linfield in the Cup Winners' Cup in 1970/71.

We won 1-0 at Maine Road in the first leg with a Colin Bell goal, meaning that Francis Lee's penalty in the 2-1 defeat in Belfast a fortnight later was enough to take us through, as described here: Linfield v Manchester City European Cup Winners Cup 1st Round 2nd Leg 1970/71 – City Til I Die

Thanks for confirming that my memory hasn't entirely given up! That goal at Maine Rd came quite late in the game too.

Thanks for the correction. I didn’t realise that the away goals rule was in place that early - thought it was introduced in the mid 70s. Always good to learn new new stuff!
