Champions League Draw (Shakhtar, Napoli, Feyenoord)

James Horncastle (Italian football expert) was touting Napoli as serious contenders to Juventus for the Serie A title this season so the they will be tough opposition (much like they were in 2012/13).

We were very Champions League newcomers back then. They are decent but someone we should be beating at home and not losing away. I can see us getting 10 points out of the other 2 sides though.

if we're unable to top this group then the plot has been lost some time over the last half dozen years. this is an assessment of whether City is truly a top side in European football or not really.

Makes a change feeling upbeat after the CL draw, we can probably afford to focus more on the league and still finish top for once. It doesn't feel like we have a second choice team any more which is a good sign.

Agreed, I wasn't trying to compare how we fared then against how we might fare this season - two completely different teams now.

We should be getting at least 12 points from the group and that is being modest.

We're quite lucky we got Shaktar as the top seed as Napoli are probably the strongest team from pot 3 and Feyenoord are decent. No excuses though we should be topping that.

Spurs' draw isn't as bad as it first seems. Dortmund aren't the team the were over the last few years. It will come down to those games as apoel should be a given and they're both unlikely to trouble Madrid.

Chelsea should be fine too, Roma are a decent side but not somebody they should be worried about really. Just a fight to see who finishes top.

United had harder Europa league ties than that group, jammy bastards, they'll top that group comfortably.

Liverpool could not have got an easier draw if they hand picked their group. a decent draw would have seen them go out, again, they should top that group.

Spurs and Chelsea could be in big trouble come the next round if all the other English teams top their groups. Lets say things go as expected and Chelsea fail to top the group Chelsea will be looking at Madrid, Bayern, PSG and Barca/Juve and Spurs if they manage to push Dortmund out of second are looking at the same. Scary for them.

In an ideal world we will secure first place after four matches so we can rest players going into December.

Going by our history in the group stages that will be easier said than done.

Order confirmed

If these are indeed the order, glad we're home to Shakhtar rather than travelling to Ukraine days before the derby. Also, if we could seal winning the group with a result at Napoli we could rest some players before the derby. We really should be winning this group.

And this could have ramifications. No way can those 'elite' clubs be happy with this draw model.

Last year Madrid got Dortmund, Bayern got Atletico and Barca got us and Borussia.

A lot of powerful clubs in vulnerable positions. No way they aren't thinking how to improve their situation in future draws.
well whats the point in the CL if you dont play top teams?
