Into old airport thurs evening, SAW, via Basle on way out staying by there for 5 nights so I can actually see Istanbul. So far from ground I've booked another Airbnb next to the ground on sat night cos theres no chance i'd get back. Look round IBL for a couple of days and home tues lunch via Izmir.
£22 the lot.

I lied about the last bit, happy tho, just over £400.

Quick question on connecting flights. If it’s a long wait in the connecting airport, is it ok to leave and spend some time in the city before heading back to the airport later?

Yep we did in Zurich on way to Aris some years ago.

Have you tried going through the respective airline websites? You can still fly Eurowings Manc to Duss on that Thursday evening for £59.99. I've not checked your other flights though. I think the trouble with sites like Opodo is that the price they show isn't always the real-time price. Same with Skycanner. They're a good guide as to what flights and routes might be available but I wouldn't take their prices for granted, particularly on flights where demand is likely to be high.

It was a massive balls up on my part… found the individual flights, all still listed- then I realised that although I’d searched Manchester >>Düsseldorf>> Istanbul, the flight from Manchester landed at an airport 50 km from where the flight to Istanbul was departing from. Checked transfers and there was no way it was doable (I eagerly await some Joe smartsrse telling me different) given that there’d be security etc to deal with and it being tight time wise anyway.
Booked now… same flight to Düsseldorf but with a 10 hour layover prior to a flight (without changing airports) … worked out at £226 as opposed to the under 160 for the original, but it is what it is… still cheaper than the Istanbul >> Antalya (sp) >> Manchester flight I’ve booked on the way home (05:50 departure)… really sickening when my eldest got a Heathrow >> Istanbul direct return for £2 with airmiles!

I had a look and I got the impression it's stopped running by the time I land.
Will have another look as obviously a taxi would cost more but would be worth prebooking a taxi if others want to share

We were going to do the train but couldn't find an online booking, it seemed to be book over there at the station, which we thought could be a bit of a gamble with a lot heading that route and not too many trains a day.
We're flying to sofia and getting the all night bus to Istambul which seems to be just as quick as the train with plenty of buses from what we've read.

Yep that was basically our back
Up plan if we arrive on Thursday and find the train is full booked. We are going to station as soon as we land to try and sort so we can relax a bit then

Amazes me that City and Etihad don't get together and send planes out to Istanbul with subsidised prices, great PR for both club and airline.

Nice and simple route for me. Manchester - Istanbul SAW on friday 9th at 16:45. If anyone wants to share our transfer to Beyoglu let me know. Hotel has sorted it and think it’s a mini bus of 8, but there will only be 2 of us

Luton 0900 Fri via Budapest arrive IST 1700hrs ..with time difference. Return Sunday 11.45 arrive 14.45...£320 when I booked it last week

Friday to Tuesday
There are still decent indirect flights available for around 330

Thanks for taking the time to reply I really appreciate it.
The website is a bit ambiguous so I'll ask the hotel and post anything useful on here.
Bus is a no brainer cost wise if it runs late on.
