Champions League Final | Post-Match Thread

It’s maybe where a no9 will help

Yeah its the same problem as last year, we just have better CBs but the tactical issue isn't fixed. I think we need a number 9 and a box to box midfielder to unlock 532s.

Our midfield is too static, too many 10s and no one making late runs from deep and lacking a proper striker does kill us against the 3 CBs because it removes the key question the false 9 poses which is to stay in position or come out to the false 9. With 3 CBs, you can do both.

The Champions League has always been a strange competition to win. It is a lottery. Pep didn't win this draw, but has still a few tickets left
If he'd have played something like the PSG team and lost, I could have taken it with good grace and moved on.
I just can't handle the fact that we handed them the game on a silver platter.
Totally agree, no argument if he played ferna for sterling and played same formation , then fair do’s

Couldn’t have gone worse.
I doubt the 9 change Ake, Mendy etc team would have done any worse. Pathetic effort tonight which was undermined by Pep tinkering
Here's why it mattered that we played properly against Chelsea in the two run up games (which a lot of people think didn't matter). It would have showed how to beat them with the players that were going to play. Imagine we play our best 11 and get stifled like tonight - it makes you think. Then you get a 2nd chance - and you tinker then. It's experience against a common opponent. If you don't think it matters then fine - it's your opinion, but you'ld rather spar someone twice before the real fight to know their strengths and weaknesses right?

Fucking hell, that hurt like mad. Mad how we’ve won two trophies, but the season ends on the biggest downer ever.
Just a word on the gloating Rags beeping their horns and cheering out their car windows, whilst we were coming out the CFA. A couple of my grandkids are about to start their first school and yet United haven’t won a trophy in their lifetime. Us losing is literally all the cunts have left to cheer.

People have already forgotten how difficult this season was for us. No preseason, many injuries, covid, only one fit striker for most of the season, etc. etc We were 12th in November and won the league by 12 pts which was exceptional including those record-breaking 21 wins. Pep has won 14 from 16 finals in his career. So, it's not like he wins one-off games rarely. His record in finals is the best in the world by far.

Think the biggest problem today was that half of our players weren't in top form due to the heroic efforts from December to March. Kevin, Bernardo and Mahrez did very little today, Gundogan wasn't Gundogan from January and February, even Dias wasn't Dias. We were at our best during that record winning run. It's only normal we lost a bit of form. Even against PSG we weren't very convincing. We were a bit lucky in Paris with both goals. Even Pep and the players admitted we weren't good in the first half at the Etihad either. It's not like we were out of this world with Rodri/Ferna. We struggled against PSG with either at DM in the first halfs away and home.

Generally, it was an excellent season. Sign a great striker this summer and win the lot next season. Wish people didn't say stupid things about Pep and the players and give fans of other teams the stick to beat them with and laugh at us. Great season. Let's hope the next is great as well!
So the pundits saying Chelsea should be scared looking at our destruction of Everton, were just being silly?

The fact is we went into the game today as the clear favourites.

I mind when we lose having played well and just got beaten fair and square. But it boils my piss when we lose because we played like clowns. And we played like clowns today because of how we set up. I am convinced if we'd kept that waste of space Sterling in the stand and played Rodri or Fern, we'd have won today. We will never know, but I'd rather that team lost than the shambles we saw this evening.

As soon as I saw the lineups I knew we were going to disappoint. Gut feeling. And it was clear Chelsea had us sussed after first 15 minutes. Why oh why did it take Pep so long to try and change things? Pep needs to take ownership of this defeat. I'm pissed off. His tinkering cost us the CL tonight and it didn't need to be that way.

We didn’t look right from the kO.

Chelsea deserved it, we didn’t.

Couldn’t even make their keeper save a shot.

They’ll win PL next season with their 7 man defence.

Sterling not good enough all season, yet makes CL final?? Explain that!

At least we win the PL comfortably, but it won’t be the same next season.

no european cups, but there model works, they were in 8th when Tommy took over and going nowhere, he's done a great job, fair play to him, PSG must be also having a long hard think tonight.
Chelsea needed Spurs to help them hugely to finish in the top 4. The model isn't working that well.
