Champions League Games 5/6 March

One other factor that should have been taken into consideration was that the shot was flying over the bar, it wasn't like the ball striking his arm was preventing a goal. Obviously you can make a case for it being handball but it certainly wasn't clear cut. Given the context at that stage of the game, and the fact United didn't really appeal for it, it was a very strange decision to go to VAR. Also, why did the ref need to consult the United bench?

So this round we've had Real and United getting a leg up from VAR and city and PSG get shafted, seems legit.

Anyway, daylight robbery from spurs, and now United, PL quality really is shining tnrough.

Without VAR, it would not have made a footnote in the match report, let alone be the game defining moment. I agree with football is fixed:

Mark Clattenburg has his say:

“Let's be clear, referee Damir Skomina applied the laws as UEFA wish them to be in awarding Manchester United their late penalty in Paris.

But PSG will be furious, and I understand why. This, for me, should not have been a penalty as Presnel Kimpembe did not deliberately handle the ball.

This would never be given as a penalty in the Premier League, but it was given in the Champions League because of UEFA's recent instruction to referees, which came about after Manchester City conceded a similar one at Schalke last month.

As someone has already said, Clattenburg gave a worse decision against us and justified it by saying "he wasn't sure but the Spurs players were"

I agree. With VAR we've gone out of the kettle and into the fire. A decision which would have been inexplicable before, is now justified, last season Otamendi's and Kimpembe's handballs would not have been given, and everyone would have been clear on why and been in agreement. Now we have the likes of Walton on TV saying actually it is hand ball, when before it wasn't. It's like they've invented a new rule. It's a farce.

They said that the directive given to the refs now (following the Otamendi decision) is that even if a player hasn't deliberately handled the ball, if he's made himself "bigger" by the positioning of his arms and the ball strikes him, then it's now a penalty
So in that case last night it was a pen. But let's see what happens when it's not one of UEFA's favorites that's appealing

So we know what happens now. Shoot at the defenders body and start appealing !

The lad deserved the penalty to be given, don't turn your back on a shot. Barry and Lescott used to do it a lot for us years ago and it conceded more than just one goal. Its embarrassing.

PSG were poor, Mbappe didn't step up and missed more than one chance. Scores hat tricks v Bastia though I guess.....

It’s opening up for us, take care of Schalke and I would take anyone but Barca next round.

Definitely starting to look more appealing than most years especially as I trust Pep to get the better of inferior teams over two legs and I also fancy us against any of the premier league teams over two legs.. you just need to look at our record against the premier league teams left in it over the last 18 months (particularly this season) to think over two legs we should prevail.

That said as you rightly point out we could do with avoiding Barca yet I think we could outplay them if we are firing. Simione and his Wiley mob are probably the ones to fear.

I am left with the idea that after our game v Schalke 1st Leg, MANUre's 2nd leg last night, and the absence of any PL refs (not that those whistling wankers would ref our games!!) that Uefa don't like clubs owned by certain elements.

It’s amazing how the ref and panel waited till the 90th+ minute to prove their corruption. They just waited for a PSG player to block the shot with a hand before awarding the penalty in the dying seconds. Geniuses.

Last night, like the night before VAR was incorrectly used. Combined we saw 8 minutes of replays to see if the ref had made a ‘clear & obvious’ error.
Now, to me, if I have TV replays from several angles, it doesn’t take more than a minute to see if a howler has been made.

I think the Madrid in/out for Ajax’s 3rd(?) was a clear indication the officials were desperately trying to find reason to disallow. Last night, no one in the World could possibly say that the ref giving the corner was a ‘clear & obvious’ error. As it wasn’t.

Now I hope it was just misuse of the technology rather than anything underhand, but so far it’s slightly coincidental that the two clubs shafted in the opening round of VAR are also the two clubs locked in long running arguments with UEFA.

As others have said, and this is where you, a neutral can come in, feel free to come in with a told you so, when we are the beneficiary of a decision like last night.

I don’t think it should be considered a ‘conspiracy’ when people say UEFA don’t want City/PSG to win. They shown clearly a dislike & appetite to limit our success.
