Get rid of the UEFA cup. Expand the champions league to 64 teams instead. Have a pure cup competition one game with extra time etc. No seeding Up until last 8 ties can be played anywhere and televised with or without supporters, as of now allocate a country to host QF, Semi and Final in one of the countries still left in the tournament and re brand it as the European cup because teams other than champions are in it.

I know it’s because of the virus but I think a last 16 knockout tournament in a neutral country is a great idea going forward.

I'd go for domestic seasons running August - April (maximum 18 team league) then having a World Cup style 32 team tournament for the Champions League and Europa League in May/early June in a host country. Qualifiers could be fit in in March/April. Have a festival of football.

Been saying same thing to mates recently. Playing European games over the course of a season makes it a wee bit convoluted in my opinion.
Just play domestic games when European Fixtures are currently scheduled. Domestic season ends end of March, April May Euro Club comps
Current seasons top 4 go into CL etc etc

The away goals rule isn't annoying. It encourages teams to have a go in the away leg.

That might have been true years ago but it’s certainly not the case now. If anything it encourages the home team to not have a go. It’s why 0-0 at home is considered a good result now. For me, it’s bag o shite and should be dumped, forthwith.
Never understood why winning 5-2 at home and getting beat 3-0 away means you are out and, frankly, I’d rather go out on penalties than lose on away goals.

Yep - if ticket-paying fans were asked for a CL format it would be quite different to the one that is current or the next model. The CL has developed, not on the basis of excitement, football, top teams playing top teams, but on the premise of what generated the most loot! And the more games there are, the greater the chance Uefa can sting teams for kicking off the second half a handful of seconds late!

Have Liverpool ever won the Actual Champions League?

I know they've won some kind of 25-30pts away from being Champions League, where they qualified as the 4th placed team, but I can't recall them winning the full competition.

Maybe that's why they want us to have a star if we win this year?

It's unlikely to happen as it's less matches, and also needs space in the schedule. Can't see anytime they'd carve two weeks out in a normal season.

I'm really excited about it though. The match last night felt even more important as we "qualified" for the tournament. If we only have one game that would be disappointing, but after all the crap we've had it feels a little bit special - I'll love to win this one and have an asterisk next to it as something unique.

The Rags and dippers (and a lot of others) would like an asterisk next to all our trophies.
