Championship Thread - 2023/24

@West Yorks Owl A bit weird, that felt like a Carabao Cup tie between a Prem side and a League 1 side. Danny Rohl did not at all set up his tactics right today. It appears we took our foot completely off the gas in the second half to conserve energy.

But that boy Gassama looked like a right hidden gem.
TBF m8 a game like this is not one that helps us stay up or not, although the 1st goal what are we thinking. Beadle passes to Vaulks on the edge of the box when clearly nothing is on. From that point it was damage limitation.

Rohl changed to 3-5-2 at HT which I think made us more competitive, personally when it wa 2-0 after 30+ mins I was expecting a tonking so in the grand scheme of things I'll take that.

regarding Gassama he's raw and can make the wrong decisions knowing when to pass or take on a man, but I agree him Mussaba & Cadamarteri are the future of the club whatever division we are in next season (most likely League 1)

Although know Chancer he'll mess up selling them at the right time and they'll once again leave for free. :)

Yep, I definitely noticed the change in his plan/formation and how it meant that we shouldn't have started to be complacent and see the game out from the second half kick off. Had you guys scored from one of those second-half corners it would have given your players the extra drive to do the unthinkable.

You guys had great fans and were vocal throughout. One thing about the Championship is most of the teams we play carry on chanting throughout the 90 minutes despite being dominated and outplayed.

That really doesn't happen that much in the Premier League and one of the few things I'm envious of the lower leagues. The King Power has a massive prawn sandwich and tea thermos brigade and I truly despise some of my fellow fans.

Terrible set of results for the bottom 3 tonight, we've gone from 5 to 7 from safety but with our goal difference it's 8.

With 14 games to go it's not happening, so looks like another spell back in League 1. That's the 4th time since we dropped out of the top flight in 2000.

Every other time we've got promoted back in 2 seasons, unfortunately I don't think that will happen next time, as we're getting overtaken by the likes of Deadpool.

Some hopeful news from my club who have confirmed the sale & new owners of WBAFC.

Don’t really know anything about the new owners, but getting rid of the Chinese owner we have at present & clearing the £40 million debt from the club is essential in securing the immediate future of the club.

We were in massive trouble & teetering on the very edge of going under thanks to the current owner using us as his personal bank, only taking money out of the club to support his other businesses
As always, time will tell if the new owners will be good for us, but fingers crossed, we have a future, for now at least.

Just seen that m8, good news getting rid of Lai, wonder if he'll pay his loan/dividend back?

I think we know the answer to that :)

Thanks WYO, there is a bit more info slipping out about the deal, but it basically seems as the new owners are buying the club for £60 million, with £20 mil going to Lai & £40 mil paying off the debt.
These numbers are actually astonishing as it shows just what an appalling businessman Lai turned out to be. He reported paid close to £200 million for the club & is getting £20 mil for it now, having lost £160mil on the deal, whilst also running up £40 mil in debts.
Without new owners, we will have gone bust before the end of this current season.
Just got my fingers crossed that the new owners will be better than Lai, that we can ultimately keep hold of Carlos Corberan, who seems to be a decent manager & just be competitive in the championship.

Think West Bromwich Albion are a smashing club.
Your fans are loyal supporters with a warm welcome the 6 times I've visited The Hawthorns.
Had a fair few Mancunian ex-players : Tony "Bomber" Brown, Len Cantello, Remi Moses.
Hope this takeover works, as there are some really shite owners (appreciate the Owl's fans opinions as the Championship news is difficult to find).
Looks as if the 3 relegated teams from last year's Premier League will get promoted.
That would be a big shame, as it is always good to see a "small club" get to the Prem...

Think you are correct about the clubs getting promoted this year, we are nowhere near as good as those teams & even if we manage to stay in the top 6, we will only blow it in the playoffs, we are just not good enough.
Still, it’s encouraging news about the takeover & at the moment, a huge relief.
Best ex City players I saw playing for us were Peter Barnes & Steve MacKenzie. Both were excellent.
