Channel deaths | Four confirmed dead after migrant boat tragically capsizes (p 41)

I heard the Dublin agreement wasn’t used hardly at all anyhow, I haven’t checked that because pardon the pun that ship has sailed. I know what the solution isn’t though, belly aching over something that happened 5 years ago.

Your obsession ain’t coming back anytime soon. I do wonder what is at the front of your concerns people drowning or Brexit point scoring. With the track record you lot have with every thread you can see why some might think your motivations are a tad suspect.
its pretty tedious, anything and everything they can they blame on brexit. In this case the Dublin agreement clearly wasnt working before we left but that doesnt stop the usual suspects pretending it was the solution.

No I cant. As you allude to in your reply this is a global issue much bigger than this cross channel Punch and Judy show and will get progressively worse.
Have you got any answers beyond man the barricades and shut yourself away from all the Worlds problems ?
Already gave my answer, set up something on French soil, if they are genuine asylum seekers they go through the process, if they aren’t and choose to come via boats as soon as they land, they are put in camps, processed and sent back.

It’s also pretty tedious watching people pretend that our policy of pissing off our neighbours makes no difference.
Working with our neighbours is the answer not blaming them.

There is already something on French soil via the Touquet Treaty. The agreement lets British immigration officials carry out border checks in northern France rather than in Dover.

It effectively puts the UK border in Calais.

Tbf even The Telegraph, one of the biggest cheerleaders of Brexit, acknowledges that it is a significant factor in the current situation:

Johnson has written to Macron. One key part is that the UK wants a readmission treaty with the EU. It’s one of the pull factors for coming to the UK, the inability to return refugees and that it is easier to disappear in the UK than in most European countries - ie no ID cards and the UK does not have access to the EU refugee data base.

just pointing out a few facts to those that dont understand or refuse to accept the reality of the situation. Why do you think we are peeing off the French. We offered to pay them money we offered to send police over? I have no doubt we will work with them as they clearly need our help in dealing with the issue.

What’s this reality you’re talking about that people are refusing to accept?

It’s technically our issue which the French manage on our behalf and have done for decades. Under the current treaty, the French hold immigrants/refugees wishing to come to the UK in France and conduct the processing etc.

The treaty is hugely unpopular in France as the French see no reason why they should have to deal with UK immigration/refugee issues on their territory.

If the UK is to process applicants whilst they are in France then this govt is the worst one to be in charge of it. It will all be on-line ( run by one of their donor mates and costing billions obvs ) as everything is. Covid and other things like UC have shown that not everyone in the UK has access to adequate IT and smart phones to do things is anyone seriously suggesting that people fleeing conflict all have access to a smart phone and will be able to navigate a no doubt difficult process in a language that isn't their own first language whilst sat in the dunes at Dunkirk.
