Channel deaths | Four confirmed dead after migrant boat tragically capsizes (p 41)

Yeah, because they're arriving fucking destitute, having spent every single penny they have getting here.

Which was the whole point of my original comment - imagine how much better they'd do in this country if they arrived with significant amount of money to get them started.

Sometimes you really don't seem to read the comments your replying to.
Of course I read and responded to your post accurately as you have just confirmed. You said if they had c16k Euros, to which I asked then what once they spent that.

I believe what I see locally today, which is plenty in free accomodation and in receipt of benefits.

they don't get cash benefits - the much vaunted £40 pw ( actually high thirties ) is given in redeemable vouchers. And the reason they don't work is because they are forbidden to do so by law whilst the asylum process trundles on

99% of them want to come here get settled as soon as possible and work there bollocks of to better themselves they’ll want to go to college and learn as much as they can to have a better life for them and there family.

The media in this country is the problem how they report on desperate people wanting to better themselves as criminals and scroungers!

Given that they can't even set up a system to monitor the inside lane on "smart" motorways to keep broken down motorists safe they just would outsource it to a firm that couldn't make sure all the camera's work never mind have enough staff to monitor those that work. What you have to understand is they don't want to stop the people coming here - its one of the bogeymen they need to keep their base angry
But the French would be doing it on the French coastline, they manage all the cameras on the roads and inside the tunnels...oh, wait.....!

Funnily enough - and much to his surprise it seems- Johnson isn't the PM of the Northern French coast and he can't tell them what to do.
You have an uncanny ability of not reading a post but reading into a post. I'm not even sure anymore if you even remember what point you're meant to be arguing/defending!

I'm fairly sure the coastline could be policed if the money was available and of course the will.
I wonder how much it would cost to police?
I wonder how much has, and is, being spent already, on top of the 100 plus million the UK have given France?
I wonder how much the proposed extra measures could eventually cost?

Then, after all that wondering, i wonder why the government don't just use the cash to help these people?

French or British Government are we talking about here.

However, what people don't know is that people who aren't eligible to work can apply to the home office to request permission to work. It is rarely granted, save for exceptions where it suits their own interests e.g. paying detainees in immigration detention centres to work as cleaners.
