Chat GPT

AI doesn't need to "kill us off", i think anyone who believes this is a long way off.

However a situation where AI could be used to bring down society could happen, just imagine you wake up one day and your bank account has been wiped out, your pension pot has gone, your gas and electric supply has failed, How long before there were riots on the street.

I'd be better off haha.

I asked DALL-E to create an image representing this thread and it gave me this:

I reckon @Chippy_boy is the one in the middle.

Thanks for the link. I hadnt seen this one before and ended up messing about on it for about an hour last night! It's incredible how intuitive it is and how it met almost every brief I set for it... But its definitely a soulless endeavour. I would hate to think of talented artists or designers losing gigs and giving it up based on the advancement of AI, but its happened in other areas before.

I think your mixing up AI with the Tories

I could read about this subject all day. It's so interesting.

This isn't necessarily for you (although I'm sure you'll find it an interesting read). But anyone who doubts how quickly we will reach superintelligent AI should have a look at this article.

This is the key sentence:

Because of the exponential growth (that we already see) in AI, we might see something that is 6 million times better than the currently most intelligent AI within 1 or 2 years.

Then something that is 36 TRILLION times more intelligent 1 or 2 years after that (The historic exponential growth in this area is faster than my example - so it's likely to be a much shorter timescale).

Superintelligent AI is around the corner, and anyone who can't see that is either uninformed or an ostrich.

Whether it will be good or bad is a completely different discussion - but feel free to bookmark this post. Within five years, AI will have changed our lives considerably more than any other 'invention'.

That reads like you are equating the computing power to human intelligence. I.e it ia not 6 million times more intelligent than its predecessor, it is the computing of it that is stronger.

And the exponentialism only applies if there is infinite growth and resource, which at some point surely still gets limted by existing technology and 'library' of information to access.

Unless AI can generate its own technology and produce its own information, the exponential side should really only decline not increase, should it not?

I used DALL-E 3 which is now integrated into ChatGPT-4 for premium users. I use it basically every day. Best £20 I ever spent.

DALL-E 3 is the same model used by Bing. The big step forward that I can see is lettering (my image above got the text perfect which it never used to be able to do), and hands which now consistently look much more natural.

I’ve also been putting GPT-Vision through its paces. I was absolutely floored by how good it is. I uploaded a picture of my dog and asked it to guess his breed, it got it exactly right. I uploaded a photo of an average looking street from my holiday in Toulouse and asked it to guess where I took it. It guessed it exactly right first time. I took a picture of a little statue of Perseus I have in my office, it guessed who he was first time. I showed it a picture of a pile of books and told it to guess which subject I was studying, it got it first time. I gave it a screenshot of a video game, it told me the video game first time.

I’m admittedly the kind of person who is easily impressed by AI but I was astounded at its hit rate. It is literally already better than most humans at giving me information based on a picture alone.

I find the image side of it much more impressive than ChatGDP or text based outputs. Particularly as the time to generate responses is almost equal.

Have a go at Pi AI perhaps? Instant, conversational like responses. https://pi.ai/talk

And if you have an iPhone, you can literally just talk to it and it talks back. I think it is absolutely incredible.
