Chelsea (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Not seen us that chaotic in years. Was like an early 2017 pep team. Very odd.

We should have got the win. Can't score in 85th min and not be able to see it out. Very disappointing. Would have been huge to head into an international break with a buffer.
When it comes down to it we are down two attacking midfielders from where the club wanted to be. We were counting on a healthy Kevin and we wanted to acquire Paqueta. We are just going to have to make do until Kevin comes back.

Not sure I agree with that. I think Pep played it right. Grealish didnt do too much when he came on other than retain the ball a bit, although he did that rather well. We lacked a bit of pace and punch without Doku. Love seeing Doku run at his defender, just wish he would take it on his left sometimes rather than cut in.
Yes Doku was taken off too early i think. Another 15 minutes with him and we might have scored another. He also gave us an out all game as he's the fear factor for the opposition who have to deal with him constantly and takes pressure off us.

But its not 5 mins is it? its 10+ mins and in a crazy game in the rainy conditions it was inevitable there was going to be twist at the end. I actually thought there was going to be winner right at the death from either side. I was so on edge and glad to hear the whistle so I could decompress. Impressed with Chelsea, they went toe to toe in an epic battle.

That is a great point plus the Stones situation

But the problem wasn't scoring goals it was defending them!

Couldnt believe the VAR scrutiny of Erlings elbow for his goal. Ha ha,desperately trying to disallow it.
I was very worried they’d disallow that. They’ve made some stupid rule changes over the last few years but that handball rule is the most absurd. In theory say prime Messi could have an accidental handball in his own box, dribble past the entire team and score and they’d pull it back and give a pen to the other team. If he did the same but then remembered it had touched his hand so rolled it to a teammate on the line for a tap in it would still be a goal.

Absolute bullshit if it’s accidental it should not be handball against the player regardless of if he scores or assists. Sterling had one against Spurs the other night that again was purely accidental but because he went on to score they pulled it back through good old VAR.

5mins of normal time and 8mins of extra time. 13mins in total. The team should be able to see it out.
This team is more than capable of it.

We didn't do enough.

I stood in the pissing rain listening to plastic cockneys mouthing off about getting a point and they should have been nowhere near.

Its a real shame the international break is now because Pep would have been best off with another week with them ahead of the liverpool game.

Wow! What a fabulously entertaining game.

While I’ll grudgingly admit that neither side deserved to lose, it was rather galling that we couldn’t hold onto a lead they we took only four minutes or so from the end of normal time.

It was weird that Spit the Scouse should claim that Erling was holding Cucurella before the rugby tackle that earned the penalty, as the Chelsea player grabbed Håland's shirt first. The Viking dispatched the spot-kick brilliantly and Manuel was granted the freedom of the Kremlin to score the second. That’s not to take anything away from Akanji, as he timed his jump perfectly and directed his header beautifully.

The third was a "typical City goal", but the VAR check was ridiculous. The fourth proved that Mike Sheron was right all those years ago, when he said, "If you don’t buy a ticket, you can’t win the lottery".

There was some poor defending on display from our boys, especially for the third, when Gvardiol should have done much better.

There's a long way to go yet, and there will be more bumps in the road, but we’re looking well placed. Hopefully, once the international break is over, some of our injuries will have cleared up.

Gallagher for them made a positive impact in mid. Thought he read the game so well for them and gave his all. Shades of his CPFC loan days
Should have had a second yellow just before Chelsea scored their 4th. Pep made his feelings known to Craig Pawson. It might well have changed the outcome had Taylor had the balls to make the right call.

Yeah we are missing Kev definitely.

I'm not panicking, but last year's success was built on us being very, very hard to score more than one goal against.

Funny that Pep was a bit too cautious at Arsenal away and not imo cautious enough here.

Could be a fluke of a game, could be Pep just working out the right balance for this squad, could be cause for concern. Wish we could play the Liverpool game next weekend, this pacing isn't helping I don't think.

It was just this. And thank goodness they still happen now and again. It’d be a very predictable, and dull sport if they didn’t
