Chelsea (a) post match thread

Good performance. One defensive error from Fernandinho. Thought we looked a lot more solid with Kompany there, but CFC were very much safety first.

Once again we look blunt up front. Aguero is too slow now. KDB wasn't great. Delph played well
We lost it in midfield. We lost it with a smarty pants defence. We also lost it by having a one dimensional strategy.
Sometimes it's like watching painting by numbers with players fearing playing outside of the lines as was shown in the dying moments of the game.

A few drama queens on here

Totally right mate, don't agree with this peps a fraud django. We played well tonight and anyone with half a football brain can see we're moving the right way. We r just lacking a bit of quality at the back especially and a bit of leadership. Well done Chelsea, their effective but garbage to watch. I'd rather our manager and style of play any day of the week.

A disappointing season could turn into a complete disaster. Arsenal and the rags are breathing down our necks and if they win their games in hand will be a point behind us. This team and squad lack guts, fight, organisation and some savvy. We go into the season with four full backs who's legs have gone or are not very good or both. Omitting Stones from the equation we have spent almost sixty million on two centre halves who are utter shite. Our holding midfield player is pushing 32 and burnt out and the other one although world class in his day is almost 34. We went into the season with three forwards, one a kid Pep doesn't fancy or play, the other has been a huge disappointment, Jesus didn't turn up until January, looked good but got injured. That left Aguero who thank God has stayed fit and scoring. The less said about the goalkeeper situation the better, but 17 million on a 33 year old Bravo was utter stupidity. Plus points have been Sane, Sterling , Silva and Jesus when fit. Incredibly that is it!

After the money we have spent the harsh realisation that at least SIX top players have to be added to improve the team at God knows what cost is worryingly depressing. Sorry yes I am a bit down, beat Hull and I will have probably have cheered up a little lol!

They are the same heartless and cynical bunch that didn't need too much adapting, and were woeful, or worse than what we had been, last season (barring the signings of Kante, Luiz and Alonso).

No. Last season they were a shambles. They had no vision, no belief and most importantly, they had an excuse. This season Conte has transformed Chelsea, given them the organisational rigour throughout the team that we lack, the passion and belief that we lack, and the desire and hunger to win in a professional, calculated and methodical manner, that we lack.

I love Pep but many of our failings this season ultimately stop at his door.

I'm not sure why anyone is surprised at this seasons performance. I'm not! We were poor last year under Pellegrini and haven't addresssed te key positions which are blindingly obvious to anyone who knows the smallest thing about football. Saying Pep is a fraud is an insult and quite frankly a joke, yes he's made mistakes and yes he hasn't made Kolarov, Clichy et al world beaters but let's face it a miracle worker would struggle with some of our show ponies who aren't good enough this season, weren't good enough last season and won't be here next season. Get a grip all you negative posters. When we get the front 3/4 working the football is better than we've seen in 3 seasons and when we start with a new keeper and back 4 we will be championship contenders.

De Brunye is wasted playing in CM. He needs to play out wide where he will have more space and be able to use his crossing to maximum effect. He's been utter shite in CM for a while now.
He played out wide right and on the inside right tonight and had a shocker bar a few decent dead balls, he needs dropped. Problem is with Gundogan out there's nobody to bring in.

Got what i expected to be honest with that fu*kwit Dean in charge. Kante should have been off and sideshow bob should have had at least a yellow for the off the ball challenges that BT sport failed to even mention.
Delph surprised me and did well as did Komps.
Pains me to say it but I really dont want to see Kev in a starting line up for the rest of the season. Gave the ball away again far too much and always seems to shy away from 50/50 tackles. Seems a shadow of the player from last season. Cannot remember the last time he did a surging run at the defence.
Positive is that bar the rags and maybe leicester rest of the matches should be easier so top 4 i think is still on.
I thought KDB should have gone to the right after 60 mins. Navas offered nothing.

Because your average manager (and probably Pep) is thick as pig shit. Most football managers were ex players and most ex players have limited education. Stupid as it sounds I wonder if ex players make the best managers - it's whether playing the game at that high a level evens out for being dumb as toast.
Haha! Some bloke off the Internet saying one of the most decorated managers in football is "thick as pigshit" cheers you up on nights like this.

How much to get rid of your whiny arse for the night?
Sorry mate but I am sick of spending a fortune flying round the country to watch slow boring build up play that patently doesn't work. And don't just say "don't go then" I have been going 35 years and whilst we are in such a lucky position compared to most of that we are not making he most of it. Pep has no different tactics. They had no interest in attacking second half so we keep all our defenders and defensive midfielders on - why?

We haven't got a terrible squad. We've got a great squad which lacks desire and determination.

It's not about ability, it's that not winning doesn't hurt us enough.
We haven't got a great squad. Delph, Navas, Clichy, Caballero and Fernandinho wouldn't be starting for a team with a 'great squad'. He's made some errors has Pep (the keeper one has killed us), but generally speaking, we create a tonne of chances and don't concede too many clear cut ones. We are just so poor in both boxes and defensively it's so clearly a personnel issue that we are going to have to give him the benefit of the doubt until next season.

Conti hasn't got a bunch of geriatric playing week in week out or has to play against 12 he has had referees on there side all season and the main one was at our place!

Agree but why wasn't the ageing squad addressed after last season?

Realistically we need a minimum of:
_ 1x goalie (£25m)
- 3x full backs (3x £20m)
- 2x centre backs (2x £40m)
- 2x midfielders (2x £30m)
- 2x forwards (3 if Sergio goes) (2/3x £50m)

Total of about £325-375m as a minimum and means recruiting 10 or 11 players and that's not accounting for the players we have to get rid of.

Does anybody have the confidence in Txiki to achieve this. I don't.

Next season could be another one of those "next year Rodders we'll be millionaires" type like this one is.

Nowhere near amount of money, pep will identify targets he knows are good enough a fraction of the cost. We will spend big on one player in each area for those that are 1st choice. I would be surprised if we exceeded £200m

Can only really beat a team like Chelsea when you play at a much higher pace and keep the tempo up for longer periods. Our passing requires too many touches (certain players still have a rather dubious first touch) and those fractions of a second across the pitch allow teams to shuffle over and retain formation far too easily. We need four players (and Jesus back) who can play at that much higher pace.

I'm struggling to get my head around a fair bit of what is being written here. It's obviously frustrating that we lost, all the more so coming on the back of essentially tossing two points away at Arsenal. But the performance today was far better. First half, some of the football was excellent, and we were cutting through their lines almost at will. Conte was obviously worried about it, hence why he brought Matic on. But we played into their hands by gifting them two goals through poor individual mistakes (as ever).

Once they managed to get in at half-time ahead (undeservedly) and make the sub, it was always going to be difficult in the second half as they just dropped deep, closed off any space behind and tried to keep us at bay. And it's something they're fucking good at- it's one of the reasons they've been pissing the league since Autumn. The idea that we should be able to carve them open at will when they're playing like that is unrealistic. And yet we did still create opportunities - Fernandinho missed a gilt-edged chance, Stones did too, and had a clear header he should have done better with, Vinny hit the bar, and Aguero had the chance at the end. That's five good/very good chances in a single half against the top side in the country, away from home, when they're just set up to defend. And it leaves aside the other 'half' chances where we got in, put balls acroos the box but they were dealt with through good defending.

So the criticism today seems a bit misplaced to me. There was nothing naive about the way we played - had we been more 'pragmatic', defended deeper, stuck Fernando in midfield to 'shore things up' etc., there's still every chance that Willy would have been called on to try to save a simple shot straight at him, or Fernandinho to judge a tackle in the box. No system is ever going to stop that.

You could perhaps argue that he might have made the subs earlier. That's fair enough. But we were well on top, and there was fuck all space for Sterling to try and run into anyway. So I can understand why you would want to keep on those players who can produce something from in front of their defence - i.e. Silva, De Bruyne.

Shit, even the criticism of our set-pieces, which is usually warranted, wasn't tonight - three of our chances in the second half all came directly from corners or free-kicks.

Saved one from Kun, we hit the bar, Stones chance whilst Kompany was being dragged down are just a few chances, plus Aguero first half, Fernandinho first half.
Yes - but they were ones we missed it easy for keeper. I agree we had more chances - what I meant was we didn't make the keeper work enough and that's the frustration

Pep is the best in the business and over the coming years you will look back at nights like this and think of your over reactions and just laugh!

Right so kompany was partly responsible for the first goal a delp did fuck all of note in the game other than play for the first time in ages, very complicated stuff
What, you mean a defender trying to block a shot? Who'd of thought it eh? Who's delp?
