Chelsea(A) - Post Match Thread

After yesterday and all the plaudits - on here and elsewhere - I really want to see City put in performances like that against supposedly weaker teams.
Stoke next up at The Etihad - Mark Hughes and all...........
Pep will need to remind the team that he wants 'perfection ' every game............beat Stoke 4 or 5 nil - that should be the aim.

You mean like beating Watford 6-0, Palace 5-0?

Many on here think he can't pass, goes to ground too much and is basically poor. Bollocks of course but there you go.
He only ever goes to ground if desperate means are required and since our full backs and keeper have been upgraded there isn't much need for that.
As to bad passing - well that's rubbish too. As yesterday's pass to trigger the winning goal should confirm.
Bad passer absolutely not he is very good on the ball and always has been. I agree to the fact at times he can be rash which leads to him going to ground too often for my liken. Still a very good player and suits peps style.

Exactly. All these things can be said in hindsight. Let Gerrard manage a team and see how he performs and then I will value his inputs. Gary Neville was considered a good pundit, until he managed Valencia.

The only good thing about Gerrard and Camelgob being pundits is savouring their misery on days like yesterday. They looked like they were eating dogshit casserole drizzled in rhinoceros piss.

Sane is treading a very fine line last couple games, showing his immaturity still.

Not much to choose between him and Sterling in terms of making room for Bernardo.

Did I mention we were fucking immense yesterday ;)

Ederson is a boss.

Sané will get sent off for something off the ball, I'm pretty sure it's only a matter of time, but like Dele Alli (who's much worse) I wouldn't want to take away that angry streak in him because it can be positive, like vs. Palace where he just got increasingly irate and driven until he eventually got the goal.

One day he'll take it too far having a go at a referee, who he seems particularly disdainful of, but when it happens then you just make sure he learns from it and it doesn't happen again. It's only a problem if he's still doing it in a few years after already getting in trouble.

His selfish streak is similar - it's not something you want to eliminate because it's that Ronaldo/Sanchez selfishness which is driven by a desire to score more and more goals and that's what'll make him world class. One day it might cost us but as long as he learns from it then it'll be a worthwhile sacrifice.

Bernardo should be introduced after the international break to keep Silva, Kev, Sané and Sterling fresh. It's getting towards the time of the year where we ran out of steam last year, and while having a year's experience and a full preseason with Pep will have made everyone much fitter, we still have to give Silva and Kev in particular some games off to keep up this level. I'd see him replace each one of them in the next few games, give him a chance to get up to speed without actually replacing any one player.

I don't know if I like it or dislike it. He didn't show this much petulance last season, but this season he's a bit of a mard arse at times. It's probably a by-product of Pep telling him his pre-season was shit so he is out of the team until further notice. When he was subbed off v Chelsea, his reaction was a bit too self-centred for me. Just go off the pitch and accept that the boss wants to make a change to see the team over the line in a big game. Shaking his head and muttering what appeared to be swear words I don't really like tbh. But as you say, some players play better with that sort of attitude. I dunno. I guess I just don't want him to get inside his own head too much, and just play football with a smile.

For the golden oldie fans who will know what i mean and for the ones who never saw him. I think we have found the nearest player to Colin Bell and he is called Kevin de Bruyne.

I am continually fascinated by the expansive imagination of our BM posting stars.
Sir B. your command of the English language and phrasing capability makes me proud to reply to your accurate dismissal of certain players turned pundit.

There were signs last season, like the time when he celebrated his goal vs. Huddersfield by waving 3 fingers in the referee's face, and he got involved in a scrap vs. De Roon against Middlesbrough which he got carded for.

It's just something we need to keep an eye on. At the moment it's probably just a bit too much, but I'm sure he'll mellow out with a longer run of games. Im pretty sure we have enough players in the dressing room to steer him in the right direction.

Fully agree, Sane is showing a bit of a petulant side in recent games and with number of ref's queuing up to book and send our players off Pep will no doubt be having words. He's only a kid, but this behaviour could prove costly, so If we the fans can see it no doubt the coaching staff can and will address it.
