Chelsea - FA Cup SF | Post-Match Thread

Add Cancelo and Jesus to that list.

The turnaround from the start of the season was incredible and to get to the position we are with a few weeks remaining is a great achievement but yesterday showed our weaknesses in buckets.

Our first11/14 players are magnificent, but our back up players are average and some clearly lack desire, passion and the main one for me HUNGER.
All teams back up players are a level below. The issue is putting most of them on the pitch together after little preparation time, and them thinking they’re back up players.
It’s clear in city’s system if the front 3 don’t function in the defensive sense our game plan is fucked, and our front 3 were well below expectations.

Agreed, but where was the hunger and desire of the players? Big matches coming up and possibly places to be had in those games, yesterday showed Pep has little options away from his first choice side.

No problem with the team selected but what an appalling attitude the team had, simply unacceptable.

That game had to be one of the worst semi finals ever seen in a once proud competition.

More fun watching a training game, the lack of desire and intensity from both side was shocking.
How can you have no problem with that selection? He picked an awful team but risked our most important player who is injury prone. It was totally illogical and the 2 worst case scenarios happened.

I was thinking that during the game when Chelsea countered.

Plenty of athletic defensive players who can soak it up and get it direct to the front three. Tie could be settled within one game if we aren't on it.
We counter that by playing players that retain possession, we saw the difference when gundogan and foden came on, with the addition of walker with his pace to again counter the fast attacker, I'm in no doubt had we started with the players I mentioned we would of given a better account of ourselves and possibly won both of these games, but we've had so many games in such a short space of time we've had to rotate trying to win everything, trying to win everything has been our biggest challenge

Because players are running on empty, we have a title to win, a final and a semi final in the next 10 days.

We have won nothing yet, don't forget that.

They won that game in midfield. Jorginho, Kante, Mount, two wingbacks vs Kev, Fern, Rodri. I should add Raz and Torres but they obviously didnt believe that being overrun in midfield had anything to do with them. Not sure where Cancelo was.
it was only when Gundo came on we started to come to terms with it. Chelsea are a good team but they didn’t really have to move out of 3rd gear today. Thought Pep had a stinker. I couldn’t see much adjustment going on to cope with their midfield dominance.

bring on Aston Villa. We need to win that.
Yes, fair enough.

Exactly won nothing yet but gave away a comp we were 2 games from winning. Not having they’re running on empty when he can rotate so much. We completely changed the team against Leeds and yesterday so our strongest side has hardly been overworked these last 10 days.

That is what was so annoying though and it wasn’t a hindsight thing. If you’re going to start the likes of Mendy and Torres in such a big game because you’re thinking of future games that are more important in your opinion then why risk your best player who has just ran his arse off on Wednesday, looked back to his best and is injury prone?! Ridiculous decision

We need to rotate, but we must keep the possession players, foden, gundogan Bernardo and mahrez, bring them off when we have the lead, teams are setting up to deny us space, keep possession get a lead then change to a counter attacking set up, bringing off the 4 mentioned resting them for the next challenge, I've no doubts that doing that would of seen the leeds and Chelsea defeats overturned
