Well well well!!! We returned to a pre-Haaland formation & suddenly looked like Manchester City again! :-)
I was wowed with that first half display. I was surprised to see Gomez starting, but had my fingers & toes crossed for him, as he deserves a break. And he didn't disappoint! He was seriously dangerous in the final third. He gave a couple of balls away & was tackled a couple of times, but his appearance was very promising, especially with the business end of the season rapidly approaching.
Rodri was imperious, as was Mahrez, Akanji & Laporte. Both Foden & Alvarez grew into the game & acquitted themselves admirably.
Walker was the absolute business! He showed exactly what he could do, to silence all his doubters, & I couldn't be happier for him.
We played a 4-2-3-1 with a quietly effective Bernardo as a double pivot with Rodri, & it worked a treat!
Chelsea didn't know what hit them when the superb Mahrez free kick rippled in the back of the net. Lewis in midfield was delicious. What a player! It was also good to see Philips get some valuable game time & looking very good!
This is probably our most complete performance of the season & hopefully it bodes well. Even though we were at home & facing a depleted Chelsea, they had more than enough to combat us, so 4-0 & that level of performance is still a massive result.
