Chelsea (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I’m not sure why we also persist with Donnarumma playing out from the back.
It’s not like with Eddie where one or two passes and we’re breaking.
We fanny about at the back and invite pressure that we’re not setup to deal with.
The centre backs go wide but then there’s zero options after that.
We either go back to Donnarumma or kick it long.

Part of the problem is that we're getting into good positions but not creating goalscoring chances from them.
I'm reading about us possibly scoring four or five, but we only had three shots on target; the same as Chelsea. Our xg was 0.99, Chelsea's was 1.73. That's us as potential champions against a side in disarray.

What annoyed me was that we hadn't been fantastic but we'd done enough to take the 3 points. However our game management was non-existent in those last few minutes, with completely unnecessary risks being taken instead of controlling the ball and taking the sting out of the game.

The worst thing was Donnarumma going long with a goal kick with just minutes of injury time left. That went out of play and gave the ball back to Chelsea, who went on and scored. Ederson used to do this as well so presumably they're told to do it, or at least not told not to.

With Pep, it's always been the best form of defence is to attack

But looking at what he had to pick from on the bench after Ake and Khusanov had to come on because of injuries maybe he had no choice
I am aware of all that these last 10 years of Pep but we have to be able to see out last 6 mins of added time.

We almost hung on with a worse team, but they had a better manager as well who made effective changes.

I don’t really think anyone is to blame.

The squad is just in the biggest transition it’s been in since 2008-2010, and we have not been able to keep up with the number of players needed to fill the squad with good quality right through to the depth we need it in the amount of time we’ve had to do it and the amount of money it will cost.

Plus an unusual number of our players are young. We are imbalanced age-wise in the squad if we want to be winning titles and need a few years for all the 20-24 year olds to get a bit older, more experienced, more consistent and better.

This squad isn’t ready just yet, a bit more time is needed, but it’s just one of those things, nobody is to blame as such.

But filling the squad with just numbers and not players, he will say all the right things, but Stones and Phillips and 4 or 5 others are just that ? The balance of the squad needs redressing and get players that are going to be asking questions to the likes of Haaland Foden Silva and the others

Where are the players pushing Haaland and Foden ? ok Cherki is a great buy, but why was Marmoush and Ait-Nouri never played before the ACON or Why has Khusanov had little game time

"I love a small squad" has fucked us again then.
As it was always going to do due to the players never having a rest, either during the season or between seasons due to stupid internationals and the bloody World Club Cup.
We play too complex a game for players to flit in an out of the starting eleven.

Entire team looks out of gas.

None of the team besides Rodri & Khusanov had any fight in them.. we were outhustled and outplayed played from the starting whistle to the end whistle.

Shocking.. absolutely shocking

DonnaTrauma As good as he is, that was horrifying for the Chelsea goal.. Traumatic 3 chances and he couldn't save/ clear it.

I'm not giving up but we're a 75-85 point team.. that sadly just isn't enough to win the league this season! Just don't see us getting 90 points this season.

Congrats Arsenal or Villa..
You've raced to be one of the 1st to post on this thread.

Whilst I agree with what you've stated at the end with regard us being a 75-85 points team right now, the rest is just shite and you may aswel had not bothered racing to be one of the 1st to react.

There was no lack of effort from what I watched. Some extremely poor decision making in the final 3rd of the pitch and tired legs defending in stoppage time is what cost us tonight.

10 unbeaten and we're in transition. This squad has some proper potential and the last two reresults won't change that.

The reason of tiredness is in that the city team’s total running distance is the highest in EPL with a margin of 1/3 of the full range of the distance diagram. The reason of the crazy running distance this season is because that the team applied a more straightforward playing style, instead of the “boring” old man side way pass style. The reason for the style change is because we are lack of control skills with our young squad.

We seem to do odd things as a team, desperate for a goal in first half, play slow as shit getting the ball up the pitch, we go on to score eventually but then second half, we look lost and tired out, then with a makeshift defence decide to keep pushing up the pitch with 5 minutes to go, just shut up shop ffs. We have a team of fucking idiots at times.
