Chelsea (H) | Post-Match Thread

Rodri has become terrible as well. I would take Kante any day and sell both gundogun and rodri. Kante has more energy, he's more attacking, faster on the ball and cleverer than Gundogun and Rodri combined
He hasn’t become terrible fella, he’s just got the yips & is suffering with a bit of confidence, I rate Rodders but against teams who counter quickly through the thirds he gets caught short, imagine having Neymar & Mbappe pressing you in the first 20 of a massive game like a CL semi, many better have suffered, if Havertz plays in the final Rodri could be a key component stopping long balls into him & cutting the supply lines from where their attacks build from, as many stated we played with 1 midfielder Saturday, can you imagine Dias playing with 3 midfielders in defence? Wouldn’t end well. As for Gundy, like Kante they’ve both suffered from needing to be adaptable, look at his form under lampard, I watched a 15 min replay from our game at Anfield last night, and Gundy’s second half performance (after a pen miss) was incredible, one of the most intelligent displays I have ever seen, not to mention he’s well known off the pitch for being a bit of a scholar. I’m all for praising Kante for the player he is and the form he’s in, top top player, but to sell Gundy & Rodri and replace them with Kante is just fantasy football

Are people giving Rodri grief for the game on Saturday?

No way was that entirely his fault. You could see he needed help in that midfield, not one of them shithouses showed for him to make a pass.
I don’t know what City fan’s expected of him, he was part of a one man midfield.

Pep can sometimes be a bit like a crazy scientist.

No idea what goes through his mind sometimes.

It wasn't just the changes against Chelsea, that 1 man Rodri midfield in a 5-1-4

I mean wtf was that about ?

No disrespect to Rodri,if he dosent have 3 foot pass on to a team mate,it is play back every time.

It felt like Pep deliberately hung us out to dry.

Yeah i know, it is wrong to think that, but this is how bizarre it felt.

He has always had form for occasionally doing crazy stuff through his career as manager.

Great manager who mostly gets it right, but he can have crazy, crazy, moments.

Pep wants to keep players fresh for the CL final. He backs the team to get one win from 3 games. He also probably wanted to test a different shape and system for the CL final and play a bit of chess with Chelsea to see how they reacted and in which areas they were weak or strong.

We should have been 2-0 up at halftime but Chelsea had plenty of chances, if they could stay onside it would have been a lot better.

30+ hours later and I am still annoyed at the penalty that Kun pissed up. Why the hell he didn't do what Bruno does week-in week-out for the rags - hammer it - I'll never understand.
We would have had TWO goals in as many minutes right on half time giving them a lot to think about at half time.
I have never seen Bruno Fernandez hammer a penalty yet, more Mario than Franny.

Sterling said in his interview after the game that they were trying new tactics so that alludes to a Pep "Mad scientist" moment.

We almost got away with it but didn't, hopefully it will prove irrelevant this week if Leicester or Liverpool show up against the rags.

Loathe to say it but it wouldn’t surprise me if the scum win all their remaining games…….

I feel the same. They have got a bit of momentum and secretly will believe they can catch us. If you get on that roll it carries teams through tiredness and the odd setback.
