Chelsea-Liverpool, United-Leeds, Brighton-Palace all off, rest of the games on (pg 128)

Unless my understanding of the UK constitution is way off, don't the laws of the land, after having gone through both houses of Parliament, have to be final given royal assent to actually become law? Also, what does "what in pray tell" mean?
The monarch serves at the will of the people. Royal assent is a rubber stamping if the monarch refused to sign an act of parliament then they would be removed

Pray Tell?
Usually used ironically to emphasize the unacceptability of something, especially when highlighting a logical fallacy.

After reading most of the thread and differing viewpoints I'm still unsure how anybody who thinks it is right to cancel all football have come to their decision?
It makes no sense whatsoever and the only reasons I've seen put forward are "it's the right thing to do because she served the country for 70 years"
Its such a backward notion, I can't wrap my head around the fact there are some willing to see others suffer economically just so they can, do what exactly? Stand in front of a half mast union jack all day? Belt out the national anthem non stop for 12 hours?
Jesus, mourn in your own time if you have to, or wait until the official funeral at least.
It's not just about the football. Those asking what's the big deal over one game being called off are missing the point so spectaculary it's mind blowing. Simplistic thinking at its best.
It’s tradition to pay respect as a nation, as one, in an appropriate manner. This decision by the footballing authorities was discussed and decided on in a democratic way as far as I know.

Personally I quite like having traditions, especially some of the odd ones, but some are annoying I agree, but it’s not for me to decide which are kept and which aren’t. I mean, saluting in the armed forces is pretty pointless but that keeps going on.

There is no tradition in cancelling sporting events following the death of a monarch

Social media expert in full sight.

I saw a site interviewing people outside of Buck Palace about their thoughts about football being cancelled.

One woman said is was right as Selfridges had closed for a day, so football should do the same.

As good a reason as anyone else has come up with.

What would Selfridges do?
Re-open today. It has apparently...:)
