I would like Mourinho to go back to Chelsea but I think it's somewhat unlikely. If it went sour before, and the regime is still in place, it will happen again

He'll only go back on certain conditions that would probably stop Roman sabotaging the project again. Chelsea were going along fine until Roman started interfering more (ie. the Shevchenko disaster and Mourinho being pressured into playing him).

He was invited as a guest of the Brazilian FA.

Wouldn't put it past Jose to get revenge on the russian and use him to get another job like the rags. Just hope he knows what he's doing or he may end up "Borised"

Interesting to see the Sunday Telegraph running the story that Pellegrini is favourite to replace Benitez. Would be a great appointment for them I think (if given time... a big ask). But where would this leave Mourinho, even people close to Jose say he's going back to Chelsea. The story says Roman is "unmoved" by Jose's attempts to return to Chelsea. PSG? Ancelotti is doing a great job, it would be so unfair to sack him. The story also describes Pellegrini as a disciplinarian, something Chelsea need.

Wonder what the Chelsea ITKs are saying about all this...

They seem to have a good personal relationship. I don't think there's a grudge there considering Abramovich has bought him expensive birthday gifts (like a custom Ferrari to seat his family) and Mourinho has always spoke of him amicably. Their professional relationship is what needs repairing. If he were to come back Abramovich would have to leave him to do his job.

That dear old friend of many on this board, Paul Smith, is claiming that Jose is set to reject Chelsea and stay with Real. Completely contradicts the line taken by so many both in our press and in the Spanish media so I've no idea if it's true, but if they're prepared to keep him there and if there isn't a job available that he really fancies, then maybe. Keeping it Real: Jose Mourinho set to snub Chelsea and stay at Madrid

13 Apr 2013 22:30

Jose Mourinho is set to turn his back on a return Chelsea this summer – and stay at Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The Special One has been linked with host of top-flight clubs including what would be a dramatic return to Stamford Bridge.

But Mourinho, 50, who has admitted that his next managerial job will be in England – but is now set to delay his return.

Real Madrid, who have secured a place in the Champions League semi-final and avoided a clash with arch-rivals Barcelona, are disturbed by speculation linking Mourinho with a move away from the Bernabeu.

So much so, that even Mourinho admitted this week that speculation is doing him and the club no good and he intends to sit down with the Real Madrid president Florentino Perez at the end of the current campaign.

Despite a disappointing league campaign following last season’s triumph in La Liga, Mourinho is still highly thought of inside the Bernabeu and adored by the fans.

And sources close to Mourinho claim he is happy in Madrid and planning to see out his contract.

Chelsea target Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini to replace Rafael Benítez as manager this summer

Malaga coach Manuel Pellegrini has emerged as the favourite to take over as Chelsea’s next manager, with Roman Abramovich unmoved by Jose Mourinho’s attempts to get his old job back.

Mourinho is expected to leave Real Madrid this summer and has lobbied hard for a return to Stamford Bridge, but it is understood that Abramovich has yet to be convinced he is worth re-employing.

The Russian billionaire would ideally prefer to retain Rafael Benítez and Chelsea have even gone so far as to discreetly sound out key players and their representatives to gauge how they would react should the interim manager remain next season.

Benítez, whose next assignment is Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final tie with Manchester City, would have to finish in the top three — confirming automatic qualification for the Champions League — and have a strong end to the campaign, but the greater problem is convincing the Chelsea supporters to accept the Spaniard.

Benítez is admired by Abramovich, who is largely happy with the work the former Liverpool manager has done at the club since he succeeded the sacked Roberto Di Matteo last November.

The majority of the players would also accept Benítez, but his appointment would appear impossible given the hostility towards him from the stands.

Pellegrini has always figured highly in Chelsea’s thinking, along with Mourinho and also David Moyes, whose contract at Everton runs out at the end of this season.

However, although Mourinho has his supporters within the club, which he left in 2007 after a breakdown of his relationship with Abramovich, there is a nervousness about bringing him back.

Instead, Pellegrini ticks all the boxes for the type of coach that Chelsea are looking for: the Chilean is a disciplinarian with a commitment to attacking football, he can deal with big-name players and speaks fluent English.

Only two factors count against him: his age, he is 59, and uncertainty over whether he could be persuaded to leave Malaga. He has just guided to the last eight of the Champions League this season — despite a campaign fraught with financial difficulties — where they lost out controversially to Borussia Dortmund.

Pellegrini is believed to have a strong commitment to the Spanish club given the problems they have faced.

Pellegrini is contracted to Malaga to June 2015 but has been close to moving to the Premier League in the past, having been shortlisted by Liverpool, ironically as Benitez’s successor, in May 2010 before Roy Hodgson was appointed.

It has also been suggested that Manchester City might be interested in the former Villareal and Real Madrid coach.

Abramovich has considered a number of other candidates as Chelsea’s 10th manager in his 10th year of owning the club, including Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp and Wigan Athletic’s Roberto Martinez.

There is also a longer-term ambition of eventually employing a former Chelsea player as a head coach, which could lead to Watford’s Gianfranco Zola or Brighton’s Gus Poyet being considered.

Watching Chelsea yesterday I think they need another striker. Maybe just getting Lukaku back next year will help a lot, although he might also be too similar to Demba Ba.

Been saying this for over a year now, striker is not their problem, they need a midfielder in place of Mikel.

Pellegrini talk hotting up. Think he could do fantastic things with Chelsea's squad.
