Chelsea Thread 2013/14 (continued)

Fantastic performance from Chelsea. when they put their minds to it they can grind out results anywhere. i hope they concentrate on the champions league now because as i have said all along you cannot rule them out of the title race.

Schurrle says their critics are jealous: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/apr/28/andre-schurrle-chelsea-win-double-jose-mourinho" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.theguardian.com/football/201 ... e-mourinho</a>

I know they (Chelsea) are well liked and sympathetic on here, but even your coach doesn't have much love for them. Didn't he make some comments the other day sort of implying that it wouldn't be "ideal" if destructive or anti-football teams won the league?

And on this topic--I think people are getting something mixed up.

There's defensive. And then there's cynical. Or calling other coaches losers or having your players regularly surround the referee. I think it's the cynical part that turns people off someone decent and honorable like Pellegrini

Chelsea did what every smart manager in the Premiership should have done (maybe not as successfully) but they should have done it. It's not rocket science how to beat Liverpool, but it's amazing that no clubs have decided to do what Chelsea did. Personally I think it would be good for football if Chelsea won the league from a completely neutral point of view. We have become obsessed with the idea of playing good football and neglected that defensive work is part of football. You need to defend well. Good defenders like Kompany, Agger etc are being made to look bad this season, because they are being exposed.

My issue is not even this one game per se. And there's nothing inherently wrong with being defensive. It's the general ultra cynicism and game playing tactics from them lot. But it winds up opponents fans and probably their opponents so like you say it works.

Compare Mancini's City and this lot. City was the best defensive team in the league, but they were never offensive or unbearable. That's the difference.
