Chelsea Thread 2013/14 (continued)

I will be interested to see how he does next, season with proper striker.
He was rehired to play exciting attacking football, he couldn't this season as he has no strikers so reverted to what he knows.
That said he should have kept Lukaku so his own fault to an extent.
Either way i feel Chelsea will be better next season than this.

I get the feeling his time in Madrid changed him though and i know he brings a lot on himself so i am not feeling sorry for him as such, just thought it was worth noting.

I look forward to seeing us battle next season.

Falcao will change his way of thinking and would improve any squad.

Just imagine if we lost Aguero to injury for a big chunk of the season, we'd struggle to win anything, oh hang on a minute.......

We'd definitely have to abandon our attacking principles and revert to our more defensive roots, especially after a dreadful series of losses early doors away from home shaking confidence in the new system...

Waaaaaaaait....

Hehe, i am not putting much hope into seeing exciting footy from them, it would be nice though as they are gonna be on tv a lot.
So for a neutral a bit of adventure from him would be nice because as it is they are terrible to watch, fell asleep twice watching them this season just gone.

Yeh then imagine if you lost Dzeko and Negredo too. Both of those are top class strikers, maybe just below world class but much better than anything Chelsea had. Apart from Stoke they had the worst strikers in the top 10. Mourinho deserves a big part of the blame for that, because he let Lukakua go though.

The problem with Chelsea was not just the striker. It was the defence. Don't be surprised to see Terry dropped next season. They were too exposed at the back every time they gave teams space to attack them. Losing to Villa, Palace and Sunderland is proof enough of this, but it was much worse at the start of the season. If there defence could cope with being exposed then they should have drawn those games.

Sorry but i don't agree, it was purely the lack of strike-force and creativity that cost them this season.

Two of the teams you've mentioned took 7 points off us this season and we went on to win the League so i'm not sure you can put that up for discussion, they also only conceeded 27 goals all season, 10 less than us.

It's his obsession to go with brawn over brain at times which takes the edge and style off their play, his sale of Mata is evidence of this, if they had either Eto or Torres up top with Silva in that side then their chances per game would double and that's the difference, in my opinion.

Why do you think they conceded so many less goals than you did? Do you really think their defenders were much better? No it's because Mourinho had to switch to being defensive to stop them conceding so much. Here's a stat for you Chelsea had already conceded 18 goals in their first 16 Premiership games. They then conceded 9 in their next 22 games, which is precisely the time when Mourinho said they had to become defensive.

To put that into perspective even with your 6-3 against Arsenal, conceding 2 late goals against West Brom, losing to Villa 3-2, losing to Cardiff 3-2 etc you had conceded the same amount as Chelsea.

A lot of your goals have come directly due to the attacking contribution of Kolarov and Zabeleta. Chelsea's defence could not cope with the full backs bombing forward and is one of the reasons why Ivanovic played instead of Cesar. Signing Matic greatly improved matters, but they their wingers still had to track back to cover the defence or press like mad.

Then other things like Oscar/Hazard burning out did not help matters. Chelsea could do with a ball playing central midfielder, but Van Ginkel may able to offer this, but it's the striker and the defence that need to be sorted out.

Great signing, but he'll have to cut down on the sneaky elbows and headbutts or the retrospective video craze here will see him suspended an awful lot. He's the perfect Mourinho player - works hard and is an absolute dick.

Chelsea Agreed a fee of £32m with Athletico for Costa According to SSN

I would be beyond livid with the timing if I was an athletico fan! Worst timing ever for them in the lead up to there huge match against barca!
