Chelsea Thread 2014/15

Looks like having backed the wrong horse with Liverpool last season the media has decided Chelsea will win it this season. Can't read a paper or football website at the moment without some hack creaming themselves over Fabregas or Costa.

Strange how little kudos we get from them despite being champions for the second time in three years, league cup holders and having better players than Chelsea. What is it with the Stamford Bridge club that the media love so much?

Here's a clue. One word, begins with 'M' and ends in 'ourinho'.

Yep.
Only reason they posted the profit also was:

The club also announced that Abramovich had converted £166.6 million of loans into equity, another move intended to prepare Chelsea for the financial fair-play regime.

The figure represents the amount Abramovich has pumped into the club to cover losses since 2009, when he wrote off £710 million of loans poured in since he bought the club in July 2003.

Whilst I don't disagree about Chelsea sorting matters out prior to FFP the converting of loans to equity was irrelevant for as we know despite the claims FFP isn't about historical debt or cash flow its all about the accounts

Also the losses total some £650 million over 10 years or an average of what £65 million a year are a little short of the £560 million over 5 years at city or £112 million a year on average

Chelsea looked really good last night...
What it did, however, demonstrate, was one of the key differences between Pellegrini's approach to football and Mourinho's. Chelsea were cruising and 3-1 up at half time, against a limited side who couldn't really cause them too may issues. If that had been City then Pellegrini would have sent us out to go for the jugular, he'd have been looking to give Burnley a proper twatting, score another 2 or 3 goals, make a statement and, ultimately, improve the goal difference (which, as we all know, can be the deciding factor at the end of the season). Mourinho was happy to just get the 3 points, he'd take another goal or 2 if they came along, but he wasn't going to push for them.

Makes you wonder why his side and not our holds the record for most goals scored in a season. My conclusion is that this slur about his cautious, negative style of play, is in fact nonsense. He knows how to win, knows how to go for the jugular when appropriate and knows when to keep it tight and get a draw or sneak a 1-0 on the break. He is without doubt a master tactician, as well as being a complete cock.

Mourinho said that the players got tired in the second half which is logical given how unfit they are.

It wasn't his side it was Ancelotti's thay got the 103 goals in a season.

Well mourinho is a better horse rider than the dippers.

Or, alternatively, it could be that it actually wasn't Mourinho's Chelsea that scored 103 goals in the 2009/10 season and was, in fact , Ancelotti's.

Mourinho's 4 full seasons as Chelsea manager have seen them score as follows:-

2004/5 - 72 (won league)
2005/6 - 72 (won league)
2006/7 - 64
20013/14 - 71

So, hardly prolific. Chelsea scored 72 goals in their 2 title winning seasons under Mourinho, in our 2 title winning seasons we scored 102 under Pellegrini and 93 under Mancini.

Team A:
Courtois
Ivanovic - Cahill - Terry - Filipe Luis
Matic - Fabregas
Schurrle - Oscar - Hazard
Diego Costa

Team B:
Cech
Azpilicueta - Zouma - Christensen - Ake
Mikel - Ramires
Willian - Van Ginkel - Salah
Drogba

------------------
Team A:
Hart
Zabaleta - Kompany - Mangala - Kolarov
Yaya Toure - Fernandinho
Silva - Aguero - Nasri
Negredo

Team B:
Caballero
Sagna - Demichelis - Nastasic - Clichy
Fernando - Lampard
Navas - Jovetic - Milner
Dzeko

I'd say we're stronger.
