Re: Chelsea - Season Unbeaten?

I will not be surprised if they lose to United.....Premierleague/Sky will have that arranged already....Lee Mason will at short notice be given the referee job...

Think Arsenal last year........Mertesacker sudden illness.......Van Rapist headed goal.....

Cynical ? You bet

I'm aware we're just 7 games in and it's only been done by Arsenal in modern times, but they look pretty strong to me all over the pitch.

I know it's not always prescriptive, but on paper they've already played their hardest game, away to us. After brushing Arsenal aside at home today, I can't see many teams troubling them at Stamford Bridge.

Their next 3 aways are Palace, Utd & L'pool. Be interesting to see if they come through these undefeated.

I suppose they're only an injury/loss of form to Terry, Costa or Fabregas and they might struggle.

Sincerely hope I'm revisiting this thread sooner rather than later and concluding that the opening post was utter nonsense.[/quote]

Re: Chelsea - Season Unbeaten?

The longer they stay unbeaten may work in our favour of we can stay within 5 points of them. As it gets to the last 5 or 6 games they may become more concerned with not losing and end up drawing games they should win. We win our last 6 games and the title is ours again. Piece of piss.

Re: Chelsea - Season Unbeaten?

They do look decent so far but it's only October. They have a difficult few away matches coming up so we will see how they're doing at the end of November. Can't see them going the whole season unbeaten but that's hardly a punt on an outsider.

They look like a side that will more than likely go far in the Champions League too, so come March/April when they may well have a 2 legged tie against Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern they'll then be more susceptible to a shock draw at home or a defeat away somewhere that they'd have expected to win.

We've been there and done it twice now, we will relax and hang onto their tail and then come April we will come un noticed in their blind spot and boom............. sail off with the title. Of that I have no doubt.

Oh yeah, I thought Arsenal were shocking yesterday and Villa would have looked decent against them.

Re: Chelsea - Season Unbeaten?

Injuries and number of games will affect them. We are a season ahead of them in squad terms, as we were last time out. Costa gets injured and then? Terry or Cahill? Fabregas? I think we have better strength in depth than Chelsea and I would expect us to lose a few more. Chelsea will lose at some stage.

Re: Chelsea - Season Unbeaten?

7 games in!!

Their strength is their weakness......overly cautious. And I expect them to have a few games where they are unable to break teams down.

As others have mentioned they are also very reliant on Costa.

Even if City were not involved, I would not want them to succeed. Their football is extremely cynical as we saw against Arsenal yesterday.

Re: Chelsea - Season Unbeaten?

They are playing their best football now. They will not play better than that (Mourinho hasn't got it set up for them to play better than that, tbh), and they will not play at their best right the way through a season. Nobody does. When injuries kick in, as they virtually must do with CL involvement — and I'm pretty sure they'll be involved in the CL till later stages than us, because they are much more savvy in that competition — we'll see what they're made of. Anybody can see that they will be hard to beat right through the season. But I can see them dropping points with silly draws. As we have already, but are already doing less.
My point is that we're keeping in touch, while not having played our best football, although we're gradually moving up the gears now. It's just too early to call, either way. Let's have another look on 31 December.

I can't see them losing more than 1 or 2 games this season.

That's a good point to be honest. When the rags were winning titles they never started particularly well, certainly didn't blow everyone away. Generally they just kept plugging away and despite others seeming to be in good form they were close enough come the run in to keep the pressure on and win through (unfortunately). That is a trait we have perfected in our two title wins. Arsenal always started well and then fell away. Chelsea this season have started well but can't really kick on from here. I am quite sure they will have a tough time and their squad isn't good enough to deal with that in my opinion. Back against the wall in a tough away day and perhaps missing one of their key players they may struggle.
