Chelsea Thread (2015-16)

The media are saying Ancelloti will take the Chav job, but I'm not convinced. The club treated him like dirt after he won them the double. He's probably still bitter - and who wouldn't? It's all very well saying astronomical sums of money will be put on the table in order to lure him, but the man has his pride. And I doubt he's short of a bob or two.

The chavs fan at 1pm on talksport raging about costa getting fouled last night and calling it disgusting,i call it getting a taste of his own medicine

I have also noticed the only players he tries to get sent off are top 4 club players and he doesn't do it to anyone else or for spain

Quite apart from all the other issues Chelsea have, they keep selling good players and buying average players who they then send out on loan. Mata, De Bruyne, Drogba, Lampard, Luis have all been sold. The result is they have very limited number of players to rotate so players are run into the ground. Aside from a couple of recent additions like Costa or Hazard their player acquisition has been poor. Somehow this is missed by the media.

He seems to lose it in his third year. Same happened at Madrid, Milan and Chelsea first time round. Whether the players get sick of hearing his stuff, or he gets sick of delivering it to the same players, he always goes mental in year 3. Fergusons greatest management trait was how often he turned over his assistants. New voices/opinions/thinking and keeping things fresh must be the way to ensure longevity AND success. JM loves himself too much for that to ever be an option.
They finished second and he won the cup in his third year at Chelsea.

Other details include the confirmation that Eriksson personally advised the multi-billionaire Roman Abramovich to buy Chelsea, not Spurs, and he gives an insight into the Russian’s wealth. Eriksson mentioned to Abramovich’s trusted lieutenant, Eugene Tenenbaum, that “£80m is a lot” for a club. To which, Eriksson writes that Tenenbaum replied: “Yes but that affects Abramovich’s finances about as much as if you or I went to the coffee shop and bought a cup of coffee.’’

I really don't think he would consider a £20/30m payoff to jose as a fortune.
He isn't as wealthy now as he was then. He lost half in a divorce and another half with the rouble and oil nose diving.

Anyway, it's not Abramovich's personal money that would be the issue. It's FFP. They only make a profit on player sales, would need to refresh the squad and may not have CL. They are in trouble right now.

I'm not sure about that. Last season, everyone was talking about how well they did in the transfer market with signings like Fabregas and Costa for decent money and the huge £50m fee for a Brazilian defender that couldn't even get in their team regularly. They've definitely shown a talent for letting youngsters go too early, with Matic and De Bruyne. But I think this summer, they've simply failed to strengthen their position, which is exactly what we've done after each title too. Pedro was their only major signing, and he's probably not better than what they already had in those positions. Begovic was a good signing, but is still a slight step down from Cech. And God knows what they were thinking signing Falcao after he'd already shown he couldn't do it in England. But overall, they've still got everyone from last year's title-winning season, so I don't see how you can blame player acquisition for their failings. How is it that the players that were so good last season so shit this season?
