Buyout clause. Chelsea were desperate. Courtois left us in a tricky situation but hinting at a new contract until deeeep into transfer window. Still a terrible transfer, mind you. There's no dressing up whatever it is Kepa is supposed to be, but Chelsea probably felt pressured into pulling the trigger on that move.
