This Boehly guy… does anyone know much about him? How much financial backing he’ll give Chelsea, how does he deal with his other sports team (I know he has one in some American sport, I can’t remember which one) etc.

He’s part owner of the big L.A. sports franchises. If you were going to ask whom he most resembles…The Glazers???!!!

Boehly owns 20% of the Los Angeles Dodgers and is also a part owner of the Los Angeles Sparks WNBA team.

In 2019, Boehly made an attempt to buy the English football club Chelsea for $3 billion, but the current owner, Russian billionaire tycoon, Roman Abramovich, rejected the takeover bid.

In 2022, he, alongside Hansjörg Wyss, formed a consortium to buy the club from Abramovich after the Russian put the club to sale amid sanctions by the UK government.

Boehly and Mark Walter acquired a 27% stake in the Los Angeles Lakers together from Philip Anschutz in July 2021.

As of February 2021, the Lakers were third-highest valued team in the NBA, with an estimated value of $5.14 billion.

Boehly is also an owner of fantasy sports company DraftKings and esports organization Cloud9.

I have honestly never seen a club sold like this football, ever. Its like following along some reality TV experiment or some high end billionaire auction TV show yet but its my football club that's at the heart of all of this. Throw the sanctions and war in Ukraine into the mix and its been a proper surreal 2 months of being a Chelsea fan.

It’s weird that Abramovich has so much of a say! 4b is ridiculous fee unless 1 billions is dedicated to transfers over the next 10 years.

I would be, and who do you see as a replacement?

I don't know if giving him the massive contract he wants at 29 is a wise move. We're losing a good player who has been top class for us for about 18 months, but he's nowhere near irreplaceable. We've been linked with Gvardiol of Leipzig who is only 20 but he's strong, fast and super aggressive, and very impressive technique on the ball.

so what happens at Chelsea now? Are they off sanctions directly pr is it due dilligence first?
Really weird situation on the whole for the fans

He would be an excellent signing tbf, wouldn’t mind him here. Gvardiol and Kounde would have you set for a while, though you’d probably need a more experienced option as well, especially with Thiago Silva approaching his dotage

Looks like Abramovich is trying to renege on his promise to write off the £1.6bn debt.
