But they parked the bus and dared us get past them. We couldn't do it, and then they sucker punched us on the counter. If it weren't for a lucky deflection, we would have held out for a 0-0 against you lot. It's never easy playing a parked bus with great defenders, as you know. Losing against Juve and City isn't anywhere near crisis territory. If we lose another game this weekend though, then you might onto something :)
mate you had no shots on target vs us , if you want to believe that you lost because of a deflection youre more delusional than united fans

Well we defended OK in phases and you missed some good chances but the only goal of the game was a deflection. Those are the facts of the game. I've spent the last 3 days agreeing with everyone that City were top notch in their performance, but it was still a lucky deflection that decided the game. It was that little bit of luck you were missing last night, because the performance against PSG was fantastic again, but they have more firepower than Chelsea and the lucky bounces went their way instead City's way.

no it wasnt 'lucky' we kept trying and it finally went in. thats how goals are scored.
but feel free to live with whatever excuse you want to live with

Christ. I'm not having a dig at City here, so let's not act like saying a deflected goal is a bit lucky is some kind of insult to City. You obviously deserved to win the game by way more than 1-0, but luck is part of the game. It's okay to acknowledge it when you benefit from it.

I think the point being made was more around your insistence Chelsea under Touchel are playing attacking football. In fairness I only watch Chelsea when they are playing City but I’ve seen us play 4 times since Touchel was appointed and the approach had been consistent. The football Chelsea played prior to going 1 down on Saturday was anything but attacking , it was classic park the bus and try for quick counters by hoofing it up to Lukaku or Werner supported by runners from the block. It worked for you 3 times at the end of last season it did not work on Saturday and in truth we should have scored at least 3 possibly 4.
If your happy with it though that’s fine but it’s not Pep’s philosophy which is attacking

That's not what the post you're responding to is about though. That poster said it was delusional to say a deflected goal is a lucky goal.

As for how to accurately describe Tuchel's football, well you admit you've only watched Tuchel's Chelsea 4 times, and they were all against the attacking juggernaut that is City. I don't think that's enough to form an opinion one way or the other, but even in those 4 games, we were the better team in 2 of them, had more possession in one of them and certainly did not park the bus in any of the first 3 games.

Last night was a more typical game under Tuchel. We just lacked the little creativity we usually have.

We did do that, but Tuchel has admitted that wasn't part of the plan. We just couldn't escape City's press, and for some reason we lacked the physicality to stand up City's intensity, so we kept losing every 50/50 in our half. The pressure on us was relentless. I don't think Tuchel is a defensive coach at all.
I think the media lovefest with Chelsea and "he has Pep's number" actually backfired and put a lot of pressure on Tuchel and Chelsea. There is no other credible reason for them to be scared of City (as they clearly were) after 3 wins and a top start to the season.

In all honesty, I think City's intensity in the press and counter press forced Chelsea into that extreme low block. I don't think Chelsea were scared of City. They just couldn't escape the press. If we had Chilwell, Mount and Havertz out there instead of Alonso, Werner etc, maybe that would have been different, but who knows. In the CL final, we kept beating City's press because we constantly had Mount and Havertz taking up positions in between the lines. In this game, we just had Werner and Lukaku trying to wrestle with your entire backline.

Usually teams who come out all guns blazing like that, like Spurs the week before, can only keep that kind of aggressive press going for 25-30 mins before they tire and retreat. So you weather the storm, and take over the game. City kept it going 70-75 mins and at that point, we were knackered ourselves. That is unbelievable and incredibly hard to live with.

deflected goals can be lucky goals yes, that goal was Jesus tricking 3 of your defenders and the goalie , however

I mean in all seriousness, Jesus did a neat little feint that moved 3 defenders an inch backwards which created the space to get the shot off, but the shot was still deflected which completely stranded Mendy. That is lucky, and it was well earned luck. It is luck the performance deserved. It would have been a travesty if that game ended up 0-0 (not for me of course, I'd have been buzzing, but generally speaking).

I didn't intend to harp on about the deflected goal so much, but I also didn't expect someone to be so fixated on what I think is or isn't lucky.
