Its funny. In the summer when they sold Carvalho to Real Madrid, I remember thinking "I cannot fathom why have they sold one of their best players with so little fight when they didn't need to".
You could see that it was Carvalho rather than the over-hyped Terry that really knitted things together at the back for them, and I recall them looking shaky last season (I think it was) when he was out for a sustained period of games.
It put me in mind of when Liverpool sold Alonso to the same Club. It was just one of those transfers you can't get your head around - just surrendering a key player to Real Madrid for no discernible reason.
And we all know what happened to Liverpool after they sold Alonso - a period of steep decline into the abject state they find themselves in today.
It really wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see a similar trajectory for Chelsea over the next year or so. Bizarre!
