Chelsea. What's gone wrong for them?

Its funny. In the summer when they sold Carvalho to Real Madrid, I remember thinking "I cannot fathom why have they sold one of their best players with so little fight when they didn't need to".

You could see that it was Carvalho rather than the over-hyped Terry that really knitted things together at the back for them, and I recall them looking shaky last season (I think it was) when he was out for a sustained period of games.

It put me in mind of when Liverpool sold Alonso to the same Club. It was just one of those transfers you can't get your head around - just surrendering a key player to Real Madrid for no discernible reason.

And we all know what happened to Liverpool after they sold Alonso - a period of steep decline into the abject state they find themselves in today.

It really wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to see a similar trajectory for Chelsea over the next year or so. Bizarre!

Whatever the reasons are (and there a few tbf) I bet Ray Wilkins can't stop smiling at the moment!

I think someone has pointed it out before on here but never has a man's reputation been so enhanced by doing absolutely nothing.

George W Bush would disagree

Paper thin squad — proved by the fact they named 19 out of 25.

The first XI are now too old, and the next generation, McEachran et al, are too young.

Roman spent too much money paying off FIFA for the 2018 WC. He needs to recoup some of it by betting against his team. He appointed an assistant manager to Ancelotti, Emanalo, a Nigerian who doesn't have his coaching badges - the pair of them never speak to each other!

It sounds like they aren't a happy bunch behind the scenes. I suppose it's a good job that our players are kicking fuck out of each other in training as it takes the spotlight away from them.

Star players getting older
Wilkins being sacked
Injuries to key players
Roman not splashing the cash
Squad not strong/big enough

Take your pick

Plus never introduced youngsters through all the winning years
Our bench vs their bench 2 weeks ago.

53 Szczesny, 18 Squillaci, 02 Diaby, 07 Rosicky, 23 Arshavin, 29 Chamakh, 52 Bendtner

Turnbull, 17 Bosingwa, 38 Van Aanholt, 43 Bruma, 07 Ramires, 46 McEachran, 44 Kakuta

Im sure they have one or two injuries, as did we with the likes of vermaelen and gibbs not making the squad. their squad is the weakest by some distance in the top 5
