Chelsea. What's gone wrong for them?

Last night they had the chances to win, just poor finishing and this is similar in 1 or 2 of thier defeats where they have had the majority of the chances. Could have won at Spurs but missed the last second penalty. Write them off at your peril, they are capable of going on a run.

Drogba been suffering from Maleria and doesnt look like his usual self this year but age is catching up with them now and also a lack of investment in the squad is starting to show. Also spunked 24 million on the Rameirez who doesnt look great

And still Sturidge cant get a start hehe

I don't recall ever seeing such a dramatic slump from any Premier League side, let alone the defending champions. What was going on with Ray Wilkins? Has anyone watched a match lately, and if so can they provide any insights? Apologies if I've missed any recent discussion on this subject.

Edit- Not to appear overly concerned for a competitor, I'm just puzzled.

They sold 15 players including Carvalho, Ballack, JCole, Baletti, Deco etc and didn't replace them with anyone really. Ramirez and Benayoun were their only buys, that's nowhere near enough numbers or quality to replace what went out.
They are an aging team.
They have the worst bench in the top 7.
They got rid of Ray Wilkins.
They are low on confidence and out of form.

With all these factors I think Chelsea will finish 5th this season.

I posted on here about 8/10 weeks ago after drogba had given a gobby interview - they had been winning everything comfortably and were gunning for all the trophies. drogba said he couldn't see why they wouldn't go unbeaten and win the lot.
i looked then at their fixtures - they had played hardly ant top teams and had a tough run of fixtures to come. he absolutely put the kiss of death on himself and the team as the wheels began to come off and they've struggled ever since. apart from utd, it couldn't have happened to a bigger bunch of arrogant *****. and if they hadn't cheated by calling off that game against utd when they would prob have lost again, ancellotti might have gone already.

Certainly wouldn´t write them off yet but this post pretty well sums it up particularly the aging bit. I felt this was coming but not so spectacularly

Still think on their day they have the best first XI. It's amazing what confidence can do for a side - I thought after beating Bolton they would be back in their stride.

As someone has already pointed out - Carvalho was sold in the summer, and wasn't replaced. Same with Deco, Joe Cole, Ballack and the Brazilian right back who name escapes me right now. Not all of them certain starters, but very good squad players who haven't been replaced.
